In the Box

I ordered my Nexus 5 from Google Play. In the box is the phone and a key to open the sim card holder.

There is a card with a diagram of how to plug it in for charging and a card with a diagram showing the exterior buttons, etc. There is a security/warranty booklet that doesn't explain anything about the phone.

Is this the ususal? I understand there is no manual, but no charger, etc.
either?

I purchased it from Google through Google play. The order says white, but I received a black one, which I can live with.

You did look through all the packaging under the phone (I'm sure you did). If it did not come with a charger and cable, contact Google. They will probably send them to you. Or, if you think you got an open box item by mistake, they can send you a whole new one and RMA the one you have.

Looks like you got an open box phone missing some stuff... and the wrong color! Definitely contact Google and ask them what the deal is. Try for expedited shipping if they are sending you anything :)

Personally I'd go for some cash back, then buy a case in the color you want! :D

I just spoke to Google and a very helpful representative. I was hoping they could just send me the charger cord. After much checking, the answer was no. I would have to do an exchange. I decided to just keep this phone and I can use the cord for my Kindle to charge it. I've already downloaded my contacts and started customizing it which is a chore for me with my limited knowledge. I don't want to start over!

Very un-google of them... what did they say about the wrong color? Pretty cheap of them to not offer some sort of refund or to send a charger.

PS from a thread in another post... If you want to get another charger for your phone, find a charger that gives 1.2mA @ 5V to charge your phone as well as the one that SHOULD have been included. Older chargers with microusb plugs tend to be much lower mA (like 700-750) and would take longer to charge your phone, although they'll work just fine otherwise. Tons of different chargers available on Amazon, just look for the microusb, 1.2mA and 5V and you'll be good.

You all have been very helpful. I was surprised I couldn't get just the charger. I asked what happened if someone were to lose theirs, or break it. Surely at some point they will offer the charger separately.

I didn't think about the fact that the charger I am using would not give the same charge. I will definitely check into that.

As far as the color, I went back and forth in my mind several times before ordering, so I'm just not concerned about it. . . especially if I decide to get a cover for it.

The Nexus 5 comes in a white colored box sealed with two strips of white tape, encased in a mainly blue colored sleeve. If the tape is cut or missing, that's a sign it's an open box phone. I'd return it.

^^^ This. When mine arrived, the UPS package was not sealed (tape was cut). I was concerned but when I opened the Nexus box, the white inner box was totally sealed, so I said *whew*.

If they sold a charger separately, it would likely be pretty expensive. You can get a charger easily from Amazon or such, as well as cases (check the accessories sticky for ideas on cases, etc). The cases and other accessories that Google sells are pretty expensive for what you get, like 2x as much for same/similar quality items.

I WOULD make sure you got the right memory (16 or 32Gb) on the phone, that's a $50 difference in price.
