I bought a rooted developer edition HTX One running 4.3.1 and use it on Verizon. I have founds many instances when running apps where I cannot access the menu for the app(what used to be 3 dots on my Droid Raz). For example with Gas Buddy I cannot find any way to save a search.

Is there any way to do this? Am I missing something?

Try to hold the Home button and see if the menu pops up. The setting for the Home button may have been switched. If you don't like the way it works, go to Settings, Display, gestures & buttons and look at Home under Buttons.

There are two options:
Swipe up or press and hold for Google Now
Swipe up for Google Now, press and hold for Menu

If the second option is enabled, it removes the 3 dots menu from appearing and allows you to just hold the Home button to make the menu appear.

If you prefer the 3 dot menu, then choose the first option and it will restore it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

Holding the home button does not get to the menu.

I went to settings and could not find "display and gestures"; the closest I have is "display and lights". Under that option I get "CRT Screen off", CRT Animation Mode", "Brightness", "Wallpaper", "Auto-rotation", "Sleep", "Daydream", "Font Size", "Listview", "Notification Light" and "Battery light".
