Root [Virgin Mobile] All-In-One Custom ROM User Guide

do any of these have wifi tethering working with them? The native or an app?

Carbon 4.3.1 has hot spot built in as a native feature. It's also available on the CM 11 I'm currently running, haven't tried it yet though. I am pretty sure the tethering issue is a stock one, not AOSP.

OP updated with some thank-you's and new recommendation to use Philz Touch recovery. Still working on more updates, but the first part is in, should be done later today in order to reflect current rooting info, stock/rooted 4.3 updates, and Android 4.4.x KitKat.

Update: Info added on how to install custom recovery and achieve root, along with link to Britton's thread in the stickies on how to root.

OK, I do believe that the OP has been updated to my satisfaction! Please feel free to offer any suggestions on anything I may have missed, or anything that needs to be clarified or simplified. Next up will be post #3 to get the ROM list current thanks to the arrival of official stock 4.3 and Android 4.4.x KitKat, but that may have to wait until tomorrow since I spent longer than anticipated on the OP.

I can tell you spent so much time on this. I just read through it again and this is truly an incredible library of information.

I said it before, but really.. excellent work!!

Thanks buddy!! Thundercats Ho-oh!! Ha ha ha, for those that don't know, I guess you had to be there!

OK, first off, thanks for this! I figured out how to do this entire process on my phone using Root Explorer and it's working great!

The only question I have is where in the CM11 nightly zips is the carrier information that I can change? I don't want the bottom of my notification pull-down to say "Sprint".

That is part of the build.prop file. It is easier just to use XBlast Tools though.

I would love to try carbon ROM. What is the best build to download and try from their site? Are there any builds on this site that have already been modified? I have no problem attempting to modify it on my own, just wanted to save myself a few extra minutes.

PS. This tutorial is very well written. Nicely done

I can upload the last build I was using and then PM you the link if you want. Well worth trying so you can have an idea what they offer before they start releasing KitKat builds. Super awesome ROM in my book. Thanks for the compliment too! Currently updating the ROM section (post #3) so look for that to be completed here shortly.

Post #3 of this thread updated with a lot of ROM info, in order to make it much more current since I first posted this tutorial. Included KitKat information where necessary, and several new ROM's. If anyone would like to see stock based ROM's from the 4.3 update included (Knox free of course!!), I can add a section for those ROM's as well. Also please send me a PM if you think there is a ROM that deserves inclusion (I am aware that Paranoid Android is a fairly popular one, so will probably add it shortly); only exception is I will not consider any ROM's based on Miui. I know it is widely used, but I take personal offense at their little commie mascot wearing a Mao hat with a red commie star on the front. Trivial maybe, but to me these things matter. If you are a fan of Miui, that is fine, I just will not be including it here! Post #2 updated earlier today as well, I currently feel that the tutorial (OP) and the first two posts (for customization and ROM's) are now up to date. Again, as with the request for ROM's to be included, please PM me if you think anything needs to be added, removed, or clarified-I am open to constructive criticism. Thanks to all the users who have enjoyed this tutorial, my goal is always to have this thread be of major benefit to the VM/Boost SGS3 rooted community!
