Root How to Tether/Hotspot

i tether just fine with https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/

Make sure wifi is turned off before you start the app.

Change the Device Profile to Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)

Change the Setup Method to Auto

Enable Wifi-driver reload 2, MSS clamnping, and Routing Fix

you should be able to tether to any device since its Infrastructure Mode Hotspot

Using either Generic ICS/JB profile or the Nexus CDMA/LTE profile mine will only connect using reload driver option 1, not 2. 2 will not show up at all. Reload driver option 1 will show up and work, however after turning off Wifi Tether the wifi is dead until the phone is rebooted.

This is on the Play Store Synergized version 3.3 beta2.

Anyone know what may be causing it? (This is on the VM version, but I think they are the same other than VM apps).

Found a solution (wifi tether may get updated to fix the dead wifi issue, but this works for now). Thanks to TheBritton for finding the solution on the VM S3 which also works here. If Wifi Tether works for you then go ahead and use it, if you are having issues or dead wifi (like me), this is another working solution.

REQUIRES ROOT
1. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en
2. Use these settings:

  • Interface: wlan0
  • Method: 3 - HostApd
  • Channel: 1
  • Encryption : WPA2-psk
  • Drivers: nl80211
  • HostApd Patch: UNCHECKED
This has worked great for me. It does not kill wifi after you disable it and is not flaky and unstable like Wifi Tether has been on the Supreme. It isn't a free app, but considering you can't even buy tethering on a LTE VM phone then $1.95 is worth it.

When using: https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
(3.4 experimental build)

Does yours say that there were errors and to check the log, yet there's nothing red in the log and it seems to work?

Does suck that the wifi doesn't work after using it and that it requires a restart : (

Might have to grab that app Jaxmoto mentioned.

I have been using it since I posted that info and it hasn't given me a moment of trouble. I streamed about 1.5gb worth of Netflix to my tablet over it while I was moving in the last few weeks, over 3G and 4G LTE.

To me it is worth the bit of money to avoid killing wifi when needing to use it. That seems to be a very common issue with many devices and many versions of Android with Wifi tether for root users lately.... not sure what the issue is.

Also, the dev does update this app pretty regularly, seems to be about once a week so far since having it installed.

This worked perfectly on my VM Supreme. Thanks!!!

Can confirm, although the app is now 55 cents more. I got tired of restarting my phone and dealing with all the problems that come from the WiFi Tether for Root Users app and this works perfectly--doesn't kill wifi when you turn it back off, doesn't break connection when screen sleeps.

Can you confirm the compatibility of this app for the ZTE Supreme/Vital?

Just tried it - doesn't work with the parameters in your original post.

Does this WiFi Tether app still work for you on ZTE Supreme?
