Root [ROM] CyanogenMod 7 Huawei M835

I love the CM7, PG its an excellent rom! One downfall is that the wifi gives me the cruddy "Error" which I just use this phone specifically with wifi facebook, free text, etc. Without wifi it makes this phone useless to me :( I want to get this phone back to stock and try to flash it because some people seem to say wifi works for them in the 0916 release. Idk I love the rom though. Anyone be able to help me get this back to stock?

Edit: I would also love to just be able to install CM7.2-M835-12112011 Version 1.1 however i get errors when trying to install any of the dirty ports. Ist it because of my CWM version. Im running 5.0.2.0 for U8160

Edit: My friend had a purchased version of Rom Manager and after fixing permission I successfully flashed and booted into 3.0.0.5 CWM ( before fixing permissions it got stuck on splash screen and wouldnt boot into recovery ) with that recovery I got the dirty port to install. Testing it out now.

Edit (LAST): Dirty port was nice but a few issues made me go back to Mate35. All the touch keys extremely hard to use having to press them multiple times before they work (not a problem on other rom) and google not syncing :/

I hated this phone before I installed this ROM. My phone is as fast as anyone could expect given the processor speed. Thanks to this ROM I am content with the M835 for the moment.

Like everyone else I am expecting an update with a WiFi fix.
Hey!! thank you for saying that about Huawei_M835 because It's not a childs phone any more and I am proud of my Android and it is the best Phone that I ever had and My phone is Loaded with Tech stuff that helps it and this Rom is vantastic. LOl!!!! (smile)

I don't know if anyone is still interested in this, or if someone has found a solution... I was trying to upgrade my girlfriend's tokidoki m835 and came across this https://dl.dropbox.com/sh/0ceg8qlh14xivp3/oX1w4_4P5G/cyanogenmod7v1.30-m835-09042012.zip?dl=1

I tested it real quick, and it seems everything works, even wifi. MMs obviously needs the metroff fix... It might have a few smaller bugs, but im not sure as the sd card was completely full at this time...

It has a really cool boot probably because the rom seems to be from a older droid.

Has anyone successfully been able to load a rom, then flash a different boot.img different than the one that came with the rom package? I ask cuz my girlfriend would do this version of cm7 as long as i could figure out a way to run the tokidoki boot.
Ive tried to advance recover the boot.img, but then got a soft-brick. I have not tried to flash a different boot.img through fastboot though...

In other news, anyone still running this phone owes it to her/himself to get the new lg motion 4g. I just got it and it is effing legit. Rooted screams at 1.5Ghz.

A few things I need to know, and then I may be able to help...

1. What, exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to put CM7 on your phone? I strongly recommend that you DON'T!!! There are better alternatives, such as overclocking to making your M835 faster without using CM7. It's junk, trust me....

2. Is your phone ROOTED? Because you can't use CWM, ROM manager app or do anything useful with your phone until it has root access!

3. Do you have a computer with the Huawei drivers installed? You're going to need this to root, and also to put CWM on your phone!

I am rooted and did in fact get cwm installed and working. so i have drivers installed on pc and backup made with cwm. Give me options and alternatives to speed this up a bit. My only real objective is getting it to funtion a bit better. I use the admire. I have modded it 3 times. Maybe I am just spoiled but even just getting past the lock screen on m835 is horribly slow.Thanks.

Ok, so you're rooted and have CWM. There's a good start. Are you running stock firmware or did you flash a custom ROM already?

Read this thread:

http://androidforums.com/m835-all-things-root/695063-how-do-i-overclock.html#post5625638

It's a short thread. On the 4th and 5th posts down you'll find a link that will start downloading a 729 MHz Overclockable kernel for your phone. Once it's downloaded, transfer it to your sd card and flash it through CWM, like you would with a ROM.

JUST A WARNING: Flashing stuff to your phone always runs a risk of BRICKING, and it's NOT my problem if you destroy your phone!! Also, this kernel you're about to use may wipe out your auto-rotate function. Not permanently though, it will come back when/if you restore your CWM backup.

This kernel should work fine with stock ROM, but there is chance stock may not like it. But if it flashes successfully, click reboot in CWM. Phone may take a while to boot, so be patient. If it freezes up upon rebooting, yank the battery, reinstall battery, power it back up and you should be all set.

Download No-frills CPU from the play store to control your overclock speed. I would start low 600's and work your way up from there to see what works best for you. My M835 ran OK at 729 MHz, but every phone is different, yours may or may not be able to handle it.

If your phone crashes, don't panic. Just go back into recovery and restore your backup. Let me know if this worked for you.

Thanks for the info. Do you know of anyway to get the tilt screen to work again if i try this option. I am doing this for my husband and he feels he needs that option as it helps view pictures he takes of his work and for gps and such. I want to try it and may just go ahead and try since I can always restore. thanks

No I dont, unfortunately. I can't find a kernel that allows everything to work 100%. I forgot to tell you... If you have the pinch-to-zoom feature that newer M835s have on your phone, this kernel won't work with that either.

So i did go ahead and try it. Not allowing me to boot up even after battery pull. Tried this a few times. So i restored back up. What was it about cm7 you didnt like? What do you use now? Do you have any knowledge of mate35? I really dont want to super charge this phone. I am not unrealistic. I just think it could be a bit faster and smoother.

UPDATE: decided to replace stock launcher and stock browser. Chose dolphin hd and go launcher. I am also using link2sd. I used root explorer to move new browser and launcher to system file and then removed stock of both apps. I will see how this works. So far seems to be a smidge faster. (i know probably psychosomatic) Thanks for the suggestions.

Sorry for the late response (Easter Dinner)

As I said before, every phone is different. The best working CM7 port I found I found linked to AF is right here:

https://dl.dropbox.com/sh/0ceg8qlh14xivp3/oX1w4_4P5G/cyanogenmod7v1.30-m835-09042012.zip?dl=1

This link is still good, so try this one if you want. On my phone, it worked for the most part, with the exception of (you guessed it), Auto-rotate, not sure about multi-touch (pinch/zoom) because my M835 is not capable of that feature anyway, as yours might be. Dunno, you'll have to try it. I also had a problem with the LED notification light staying on pink color after unplugging it from a charger, but a reboot will shut that off. It may work better on your phone, but I found it annoying having no rotate and CM7 just seemed really choppy and sluggish, even with overclock and a few tweaks. If you do flash it, and it actually boots up, go into CyanogenMod settings >performance > CPU settings and change the OC settings, which come maxed out @ 710 MHz!! (This may cause freeze/boot loops like it did with mine.) My phone would run this CM7 safely @ 691 MHz. Set it lower (mid 600s), make sure to set upon boot or it will go back to 710 when you reboot! Again, find a safe freq that your phone is happy with, and set accordingly. Wouldn't hurt to try it out, right?

As for Mate35 ROM, that's what I'm running right now. It's a debloated, tweaked and clean version of the stock ROM that runs much better. I use it because everything works the way it should, but still small hiccups here and there. Far less than stock, IMO. Only problem: All links for Mate35 are dead :(

So anyway, yeah. There are a lot of things to try with this phone, as the Huawei Ideos u8150/8160 phones are identical to the M835. There is still a lot to be tested, and I've already done a lot with typical results: problems with auto-rotate and multi-touch compatibility among the IDEOS ROMs and kernels. I would love to find a fix for all of this, but time is a factor. Also, my M835 has no service so I can't fully test functionality with ROMs and radio settings, phone calls, etc. It's trial and error. If you're feeling brave, don't be afraid to try them out, the M835 is almost bulletproof. I've flashed shyt that should have never been flashed to mine and it recovers every time :)

Well, thank you and you're welcome :D

I tinker around with my 835 here and there, its just not a very popular phone here in the US, so not much love for this thing. It's sister, the U8150 is popular overseas and there are a lot of ROMS that will work with the 835, they just need some modification to work fully. If you like the flashing part and are feeling brave, some really cool ROMs can be flashed, but not with CWM, you need to install Ultrajack recovery for those to work LOL. One thing at a time though. I was thinking if I could extract the Mate35 kernel and use it on an 8150 ROM that rotate and other stuff could work, but, time thing again. I have 3 kids myself :D

Try looking up Dronix ROMs for the 8150, I think Dronix 0.4 can be flashed with CWM, it has working phone and text and it's pretty quick. MMS and rotate don't work though, that's where I left off. As long as you have a good backup image you can usually salvage your phone in case of a soft brick LOL. If I find anything, I'll send a PM your way, I haven't TOTALLY given up on this phone yet! :D Happy Easter to you and yours as well!

I'm two years late. But I'm sure a few people still use this device.
I'm having a major issue flashing a simple rom to this device.

I've tried:
Multiple Recovery's(Pain in the *** To switch)
CWM 5.x Something for 8160* I think, Whatever was supposed to work
CWM 3.0.0.5 (Ascend - Right from CWM)
UltraJack 6.Something

Multiple ROMs

CM7 Ascend
CM7 Ascend from somewhere else, slightly different
CM6

I've tried edited, and non edited versions of the Update Script(remove the Assert)

Nothing works, I'm stuck with a Status 7 or Install Aborted.(before it even really starts)

And I'm Rooted.

* I'm not really new to the rooting and custom roms, I've Rom'd And/Or rooted at least 12 various devices.

This is by far seeming the most complicated Phone to Custom Rom + Recovery(that i've had) ... Which i would guess to be the fact it is a cheap phone and not well supported.

Any help with this issue would be GREATLY appreciated,
If it helps,

I only need WIFI and Bluetooth(this is going to hopefully be a Media Player/Remote control.

I DONT need Phone/MMS/Messaging.

Thanks!
