Help Unlocking Sprint Lg G2

I was wondering if Sprint's lg g2's could be gsm unlocked. I've read around and the general consensus is that it can't be done. However, when I checked sites that send you unlock codes they all offered an option for unlocking the sprint lg g2. I'm trying to get it to work on Metro PCS. Has anyone successfully unlocked a sprint lg g2? Thanks for reading!

Since it's not a GSM phone, no. That's like asking if you can change the attack angle on the wings on your car.

A Sprint phone uses CDMA technology. Metro is TMobil, GSM technology. You're asking your radio to pick up a TV show, picture included. CDMA phones don't work on GSM tyowers and GSM phones don't work on CDMA towers.

Why does Verizon work then?

This is not true. Sprint LG phones are global ready phones. They have the support but for international carriers but needs unlocking. The unlocking though is only possible right now through Sprint itself. Check sprint site for the unlocking requirements. There isnt a hack available (like the Sprint HTC One and the Sprint S4) yet

Verizon doesnt have those locks and hence they work out of the box itself and also Verizon will support local US carrier which Sprint wont (even after the unlocking via Sprint)

That's basically what I've been reading from my searches. Why do unlocking websites offer a sprint option if it won't work?

Well I myself have personally tried at two sites to unlock my phone, at to which both of them were a paid service and offered the capability of unlocking the G2 from Sprint. However both of them also apologized and refunded my money because they were not able to unlock my LG G2. ._.

So as to "Why" Sites say they can, Thats probably to get more people to go? perhaps?

Verizon is also a CDMA network. Both variations are global ready, the verizon version must be set internally at verizon to use global networks. I am not sure how Sprint does it. Neither will work on US GSM 3g networks (T-Mo, ATT. etc) even if unlocked.

Verizon phones do work with domestic carriers. I unlocked a HTC Trophy and it had no problem working with T-Mobile.

Does any body know how long it look for the sprint s4 and sprint HTC one to get hacked and unlocked?

Hi

Verizon one come out of the box with these bands unlocked hence they work with other US carriers.

I am not sure what is the time before the hack for both

I came across a thread the other day at xda that unlocking is possible without sprint consent, it's a matter of obtaining root and modifying a few lines in your build prop.

It's already been confirmed to be working for international carriers (sprint g2) but haven't seen success on us carrier yet.

I'll see if I can track down that thread again.

Hate to tell you guys but none of you know what you are talking about when it comes to this matter, I have unlocked a Sprint LG G2 for US and International use, including data settings (although the data takes a couple extra steps... with NO SYS UI crashes.. I bet you all are listening now aren't you!

Gain root access (can't hold your hand just show you the way, figure it out..), install root toolbox free and edit build.prop settings, search for ro.build.target_operator= and it will say ro.build.target_operator = SPR , change SPR to OPEN, reboot and open Root Toolbox again to edit build.prop then change OPEN in target_operator to lowercase spr so that is ro.build.target_operator=spr and VOILA unlocked for gsm with NO system UI crashes. If you just change SPR to OPEN and save it and leave it then you will get many crashes. To enable data add carrier's apn (option is usually disabled) so the workaround being install tweakker from the play store (free) and follow steps to get apn working for data and use app 'Network' from PlayStore to change network modes as the options are disabled by default because of Sprint Nazis.. Just tried it, didn't work. People over at xda figured that out a day or two ago. Didn't work then either. They say it doesn't work with US carriers. Don't know how you got it to work though.
