Kies 3 does not sync from Outlook

Having accepted the firmware update to 4.3 Kies announced my S4 was no longer compatible and that I must download new version Kies 3.

Fine.

Unfortunately Kies 3 does not sync from Outlook. I and several of my work colleagues use our S4s as business tools, storing our contacts and calendar schedules which are all created in Outlook as we are, after all, a major industrial company who works with MS products, not Google.

This, I feel, is a major fail by Samsung. Rumour has it that Kies is going to be fixed to include this facility but who knows when?

(Kies was never that great, but now?)

I'm afraid that I long ago gave up on Kies as, at best, it is flakey!

Rather, I rely on MyPhoneExplorer for phone and PC to sync Contacts, Calendars, et; between my phone and Microsoft Office Outlook. Either by Wi-Fi, USB or Blutooth. It also means that I can sync between phone > Outlook > Google. See this post, here. Best of all... its free! ;)

For a more "Outlook like" overall solution check out DejaOffice and CompanionLink. That will install right over your Kies, so you don't need to re-load the data. DejaOffice supports Outlook Tasks, Memos and Journal, as well as Contacts and Calendar. It is paid software, so it doesn't install adware on your PC. But there's a 2 week free trial, look for the link on the bottom of the web pages.

I am certainly not looking for a PAID alternative, and neither are my work colleagues!

Does your employer pay your co workers to hack around all day trying to get free solutions to work?

What is your time worth?

I figure if you buy a 3rd party solution, you buy a company that is dedicated to getting it to work. Samsung already got $600 from you, and since you can't return it they can be meh about the rest.

I know. It's a pain. But try this for contacts:

IN OUTLOOK
On the computer, launch Microsoft Outlook.
Click File.
Click Open.
Click Import.
Click Export to a file.
Click Next.
Click Comma Separated Values (Windows).
Click Next.
Click Contacts, Calendar, etc.
Click Next.
Click Browse and choose a location to save the CSV file (for example, on the desktop).
Click Next.
Click Finish.

IN GMAIL (on a browser on the PC)
Launch a web browser and navigate to Gmail (gmail.com).
Log in to your Gmail account.
Click Contacts.
Click More.
Click Import.
Select the CSV file with your contacts.
Click Import.
The contacts have been imported into Gmail.

ON THE PHONE
On the phone, touch Apps.
Scroll to and touch Settings.
Touch Accounts.
Touch Google.
Touch your Google account.
Touch "Sync now".

And that should do it.

Great news!

Checked Kies this morning and there was a new version available for download.

After installing it the sync tab is back and fully functional as it was before.

Happy, happy, joy, joy!
There is still no contact tab at the left corner of the screen. And you still can't sync your contacts in Kies 3 on Android 4.3. Kies 3 is just plain garbage.

Not sure what you are saying... with the latest update, yes - you CAN sync your contacts with outlook with Kies 3 and Android 4.3 on the S4. That was the whole point of this thread. I tried it and It's fixed!

I do agree that what is missing is a function to edit the contacts in Kies 3 directly - but people like me are using Outlook so we don't need that.

Well it is not working for me, I get the message set outlook as default email client, but it is. Anyone found a solution this problem?

It's working OK for me. If you type the following in your browser's address bar, does outlook pop up as the email client?

mailto:someone@example.com

If outlook doesn't pop up, then outlook is not your default email client.

I tried using my old windows 7 PC and it does indeed work perfectly. However it will not work on my Windows 8 machine, it appears not to see the Outlook data file although it is there. Can anyone confirm that they have it working on their Windows 8 PC, or is this a bug in the Kies 3 software. I only have one option left and that is to uninstall my windows office software and reinstall and start Outlook from the beginning.

I see for some people the latest update to Kies 3 works and for some does not.
I have Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 running Android 4.3. I run Outlook 2010 64-bit edition on Windows 7 Universal. I run Kies 3.2.13114_22.
I do have option to sync with outlook, but when I click it I get the following error:
---------------------------
Microsoft Office Outlook
---------------------------
Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I have spent ridiculous amount of time on a phone with Samsung 2nd-level support, and every other person there gives me the different reason and explanation.
Most of it does not make much sense. Like this one: This is the issue with the Verizon's modification of Android 4.3. I say this is ridiculous because, the error I get is not on Android side, but Kies 3 being unable to connect to Outlook. I fail to see how that could be a Android issue.
Yet, another explanation sounds more reasonable. I was told that unlike Kies 2.6, which worked for me fine, Kies 3 uses Active X controls, which have compatibility issues with 64-bit Outlook. (See Microsoft TechNet article ee681792 or search for the term "64-bit editions of Office 2010" in Microsoft TechNet. Sorry, as a new user I am not allowed to provide links.). Therefore, I was told, that if I move to 32-bit version of Outlook, I should be able to use Kies 3 with Outlook.
Before I go though all this hustle, I would like to get some confirmation that this is the case.
Therefore, I would ask all participants in this conversation to provide their versions of Kies 3 and Outlook including the targeted platform (32-bit or 84-bit).

Thank you very much.

I'm using office 10, with a 64 bit. Windows 7 pro. I was using Kies 2.6 for 1.5 years on a Samsung Galaxy S3. Some minor issues requiring reload over the years, but for most part functioned as expected. Upgraded to 4.3, which required Kies 3. It hasn't worked since early Dec. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, Samsung level 2 support, Sprint support, no one can answer. it does appear Samsung is looking at repairing it. But as of Jan 10th. it still won't synch.

Hi,

I'm using Office 13 and windows 7 pro 64 bit.

The Kies Sync starts to sync and sort of hangs around for a while and eventually is says calendar sync error. Nothing is updated.

That's it.

any suggestions.

I use the same setup and have not been able to sync with Kies 3 since December update to Android 4.3. Samsung need their arse kicked for selling phones that do not sync with Outlook.

You would think in this day and age an international company with billions of $$$ they would be capable of designing something relatively simple as an app and make it work.

I got a Samsung phone and laptop and Kies. The odd one out is Outlook 2007. I think the answer is Samsung will have to design their own office app, then there might be a fix.

I dont believe in paying for an app when I have already done so when I bought one with the phone.

I tried MyPhoneExplorer. Looks crap. Works fine if you don't go looking at your computer address book. MPE stipped out all my addresses leaving behind the names, phone numbers, and email address. The phone was untouched. One good point it DID sync Outlook Calendar, something Kies seems to be incapable of doing
