Is/are there any program(s) that allow you to enter a cell phone number and determine the location of that cell phone?

My metro pcs huawei has an app called loopt that does this.

I was looking for a pc based program. I don't want to load an app onto ANY cell phone to spy on that phone or read it's texts or emails or any other intrusion.

ALL I want to do is enter a cell number and know it's location.

thanks

I think that may be a function of HollywoodOS.

(In reality, no - you'd need to have some manner of software installed on the phone (Lookout, Avast, Android Device Manager, etc). So you could do it, but you'd be limited to your own devices (or at least devices on which you can install software), and you'd be locating the phone via the account associated with whatever theft-recovery service you choose instead of by just entering the phone number.).

Actually it's a function of FISA-OS. The information is available to the carrier, if they look for it. And a FISA-issued warrant would be enough "inspiration" for them to look.

Or, if it's an Android phone (Apple may have a similar function) and you can get a court order to get access to someone's account in Android Device Manager.

But Tim sitting at his desk finding out which pocket of the pants the cellphone is in by typing its number into his so new that it has a CRT monitor computer - without having first installed spyware in it? Maybe science fiction, but even that's a stretch. Science fiction assumes a new technology, then adheres to the rules it's established. Finding a phone like that (just pushing a few buttons) is more along the lines of a fiction genre known as fantasy.

You can locate your own Android phone (without a court order) using Android Device Manager - it has been added to every Android phone running 2.2 or higher. For this to work it must be connected to a network.

Android Device Manager:

The important note is that it is only for your own device - you can't, as the OP wants, "enter a cell number and know it's location."

Those approaches are really just looking for what area a phone number belongs to; you'll typically get city-level location information, and it's not "real-time".
And number portability and Google Voice totally blow that out of the water.

My cell's area code is 631, so it's in NY. Its GV number is 910, but WAY north of me, in Fayetteville (like an hour's drive north). Even my home (landline) number shows up on an E-911 console as being in NY. (If I need help I use my cell, which is always near me, and shows my actual location pretty accurately with E-GPS.)
