Help phone started constantly rebooting. Can't start

[FONT=&quot]MY galaxy S2 has started restarting, and I can't get it to boot. IT seems to have started when I removed the battery when the phone was still running[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]The phone gets to the Samsung logo and then appears to start again, and continues to loop like this indefinitely.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]I've seen videos where people claim the power key can get stuck, but I've tried tapping it a few times and no joy. Also when I remove the battery the phone doesn't automatically power on so I don't think this is the problem.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]I'm considering a hard reset. [/FONT][FONT=&quot][FONT=&quot]Will a hard reset delete all my photos and music from the internal sdcard? [/FONT]This is my fear and I'd like to try and backup my data before I try it. Does anyone know a way?

[FONT=&quot]My phone is not rooted. I can access the recovery system if I remove the battery and reboot holding volume up, home, and power keys. I've tried all options in here apart from the hard reset as I don't want to loose my photos etc.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]One thing that bothers me though is that if, through the recovery menu, I try and apply update from sdcard (internal), when I browse the folders (such as DCIM, and Music), I don't see my files there. Does this mean that the internal sdcard is already wiped, or is this just filtering for actual android executables?.[/FONT]

If by 'hard reset' you mean a factory reset, then it shouldn't affect your photos or music.

The issue might be a misbehaving app. Have you tried restarting in safe mode (can't recall how you do this but a quick google will get you instructions)? That starts the phone without starting any 3rd party apps. You could then disable any apps you've installed or updated recently, see if that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Safe mode doesn't seem to work. (I'm trying volumn down and power switch at same time). It gets to the same point (samsung logo) and restarts again.

By Hard reset, I mean booting into System Recovery Mode (vol up, home key and power on), and selecting "Wipe data/ factory reset".

Its the wipe data bit that is concerning. When I click on that it brings me to a confirmation page with 10 No options, and one yes option.

I've seen various reports about whether this deletes photos, some say it resets the entire memory / sd card to factory status (i.e. clears everything), others say it leaves photos.

I don't mind the contact been cleared as they are backed up on my google account. Its the photos I'm concerned about.

Whenever I've done a factory reset, it's only app data (contacts, calendar etc) that gets cleared, not other personal files like music, photos or documents.

I finally bit the bullet and did the factory reset/ wipe all data, and... you were right.

My photos are all still there as is my music.. so thats a result, and the phone is working again.

If anyone else is wondering, aprt from photos and music everything else seems to be wiped. All the apps I installed, are gone, as is my contact list (but I had that backed up on my google account so thats ok). text message history, wifi passwords etc all gone too, so it might not be ideal for some people, but I'm just delighted to have kept my photos and have the phone working again.

First step now is back them up
