Is there a way to sign out of Gmail?

Let me start by saying, I love the way Gmail is integrated into my phone. It's perfect cuz it's my device and I'm pretty much the only one that uses it (outside of letting someone make a call, or a kid play games).

However, my tablets(s) I tend to treat as the 'house's' device. I bought it, I'll pay for any pay-apps on it, but it's free to be used by anyone who lives here or visits. I'll even, freely let people borrow it. My concern is, I don't like the idea that anyone who's using it has access to my emails...is there a way to sign out of Gmail? I can stop syncing, disable notifications, but all someone needs to do is click on the app and they could access my account without ever having to put in my password.

Any thoughts/solutions?

Put a second "guest" account on your tablet; there's never a need to share your own account with anyone else.

Yes - but not accessible to the guest.

Apps are unique to the user, as are all the settings.

But I want the apps to be available to the "guest"....just not Gmail.

What, would they have to sign in to another Google account to use the tablet?

i think the android version must be jelly been and up to do it...

go into settings.. under users.. create new users.

i have not done it yet. so create one and see what apps they have access too.
they might have to create a new google account. you could create a dummy account.

I THINK the main account might be able to make apps available to the guest account but I'm not certain. Actually, looks like what I described is a "restricted profile", still requires JB or newer on a tablet (not available on phones)

I think you might be on to something here... unfortunately AVG doesn't seem to like that app, and marks it as malware. but there's bound to be a bunch of others out there.

I have a 7 year old who has a tablet., I'd quite like her to have access to the apps I've been buying over the last few years, but i really don't want her to have access to my email account, So this may be a good way of solving the problem.

Can you not just go to Gmail in the application manager and 'clear data'?

Surely that'd log you out of just Gmail, but not any of your tablets others services (ie Play Store etc)?

You beat me to the post. This is a great solution for this problem. If this program doesn't work, there are many more app lock programs to chose from.

^ yup just disable the gmail app on your tab if youre never gona use it. Or go to account settings, disable gmail sync then find it in app' manager and clear data :thumbup:

Thanks all!

I ended up doing a combination of many of the suggestions here.

I didn't want to just disable it because there's nothing to stop someone from reenabling it (i.e. there's no password protection/login).

So, I went with an app lock:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sp.protector.free

First I cleared Gmail's data and disabled syncing. Then I password protected use of the app.

This app also provides the ability to prevent uninstalling of the lock app. And I password protected settings as well. I think that adds the level of security that I'm comfortable with ( if there's a glaring weakness, please let me know) so that my emails are protected, not just from the friends and family I authorize to use it but also in the event that the tablet gets lost or stolen.
