Best way to flash custom rom

So without any introductions, I'm pretty sure you're all bored of the emerging newbies asking about flashing custom roms. Here I am, yet another one. But I will try to get straight to the point not to annoy you very much.

First of all let me point out the fact that I have a SGS2 i9100G for which I haven't seen any forum here, so I thought I'd post it in the international section and have it kindly moved by the moderators if necessary.

I should like to take a step further and get rid off the stock rom provided with my said phone, and for now I have my eyes on cyanogenmod.

My phone is already rooted (all by myself).
But I need the said ClockworkMod recovery, for which I found multiple ways to install, and would like to have your opinion on which is safer not to automagically transform my phone into a piece of useless metal :

1- As documented in the Cyanogenmod Wiki.

2- As seen on this website.

The latter one seems easier to the naked eye. But which is safer ?

Finally, what are the chances of bricking my phone and how can I possibly recover out of that if it happens ?

Thanks in advance,
4dnan

1) What is Cyanogen going to give you that you don't have, and that's worth the time and risk?

2) Did you notice the "Users running Android 2.3 on their I9100G MUST first upgrade to stock Android 4.x before installing CyanogenMod, or the device won't boot into the system due to it relying on a newer bootloader." on the CWM site? If you're running anything lower than 4.x, and you do it the easy way (with ROM Manager), you have to hope that the worst thing you do is hard-brick the phone.

3) If you brick the phone, it depends on whether it's a hard brick or a soft brick. You can usually fix a soft brick with Odin and a ROM you can download from SamMobile Firmwares (it depends on what country your phone is from, but they have 4.x for most of them for the 9100g). The worst that can happen with a hard brick (unless the cause is damaged hardware) is that you have to pay someone to JTAG your phone back to life.

1) Customization in its various forms.

2) Indeed I have and have a Jellybean rom running.

However after intensive search and multiple IRC-chatting, I have come to the conclusion that my device is no longer supported by newer versions of CWM, which is why I am getting a status 7 error while trying to flash cyanogenmod.

I have thus given up and reverted back to the stock rom.

Thank you for your time and effort.

Haha, thanks for your motivation. But when I was trying to flash Cyanogenmod from the phone itself, it had a kind of protection mode to make sure I'm installing the right thing and reduce the chances of bricking. Can you enlighten me on this a little bit ?

I'm also on a Linux computer for now but I can get to use a Windows one sometime soon.
