Root [International] Latest modems

Hi iT0mm0,

i really hope you can help me out. I have a i9505 on baseband i9505xxumj5 which is locked to Three Ireland.

I having problem with Roms with 4.4+ that whenever i install them they do not boot. It just stays on the Galaxy S4 logo.
Now today i did manage to get a 4.4.2 going but all others even the lastest CM11 will not load after install. Also tested with TWRP and the lastest CW made no difference.
Currently running - KOT49H.S001.131204 as it was the only that booted.

I was told to update my baseband with odin, but i do not know which one i need to install, and worried that my network sim card will not work afterwards.

Would you able to confirm that it will not mess up my network lock and also what baseband do i need to update too.

Many Thanks,

Hi aarob and welcome to phandroid

as for your problem with getting custom roms to boot i would definitely take a look at an md5 checker, just to make sure the downloads are not corrupt and with bits missing (bad downloads do happen A LOT)

ive just had a look at sammobile for you and the latest modem for 3 is MK9

anyone telling you about messing with the sim card is telling you porkies

as i am on 3 (uk) and i am already running MK9 here is a link to my modem file

if you have any problems please do not hesitate to ask

Thank you so much for such a fast reply this has been wrecking my head for about a month and your the first person to offer help.
I did the check on all the download roms for the past 2 days and they are all okay.
Im downloading that file now and i will let you know how i get on.

Another question were you able to sort all the camera issues on the i9505 since 4.4?

i would take a look at echoe rom if i were you, its a GE rom with KT kernel, it comes with the latest 4.4.2 focal camera which ok its not as good as the tw camera but its so much better than the original GE camera

as for your problem booting custom roms

if you follow every step of rusty bollocks guide for rooting and installing philz recovery i dont think you should run into any more major problems
http://androidforums.com/internatio...t/732797-rooting-galaxy-s4-dummies-guide.html

then have a look at
http://echoerom.com/roms/echoefull/kitkat/

i am slightly biased but i do believe it is the best rom available atm for our s4

Just to let you know i can now install 4.4.2 without issues and tested with 3 previous roms that would not boot.

I will check out that Echoe rom now, no harm while i have a blank phone.
Ya the camera has gone to crap after 4.3, no night shots and can not record more that 10secs of video before phone crashes.

I will let you know what i think of that rom.

once again many thanks for your time!

Hi guys
Any help here would be great. I have recently flashed omega rom 19 which called for gsm modem xxuemj5 and lte modem xxubmh1 to be flashed via Odin for sound/wifi to work.
After this I have found I get very poor reception. I am In Australia and now find I always get no signal for my data network. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to Android Forums abz33n! :)

Prior to flashing the Omega ROM 19 were you on the old, unlocked, bootloader or were you on, (or have you ever been on), the Android 4.3 locked bootloader with Knox Security?

To check this, see #1.4 of Knox Security & locked bootloader on new firmwares

It sounds as though you have a problem that is typical of those who have tried to downgrade from stock Samsung firmware Android 4.3 to Android 4.2.2. See #1.1 of the previous link.

Thankyou for your reply. No I don't believe I was on the Knox version as it does not show up in download mode.
Since omega 19 I occasionally get 4g reception however it drops out to no signal ?
I flashed the modems as stated in omegas thread on xda for the old bootloader and wifi/sound etc works?

That's because you were on the old, pre Knox/Android 4.3, bootloader. Glad you are sorted.

The i9505XXUFNA5 modem from the latest, KitKat, Android 4.4.2, Samsung, "leak", is up!

My thanks go to Repulsa for this...

I9505XXUFNA5_MODEM.rar

Just download and extract the .tar file and flash under CP in Odin. This is for Android 4.4.2 and the i9505 only.

I have installed it and so far it is identical in signal to virtually every other JB and KK modem that I have used.

Good shout iT0mm0! :thumb:

This is the first time in a long time that a new modem has made a difference for me.

Initial tests would suggest to agree with you butty.
At work I average 33 ASU, but the first 10 minutes on this one is averaging about 36 ASU.

Much as I hate to agree with the old boy, here at my desk, I am getting a better than usual reading for -dBm and asu.

I feel a Twilight Zone session is imminent for a certain cheese-rolling septuagenarian.
:)

Only if you provide me with scuba gear! Like most of the pubs around here, it is flooded. :(

But according to Stephen Fry, "signal strength" is an utterly meaningless reading.
QI Link

Far be it from me to correct old soggy moggy.... but what Stephen Fry actually said was that the signal bars are meaningless on mobile phones as there is no industry standard linking the number of bars to the -dBm and asu. Therefore a signal of, say, -85dBm 12asu could invoke 5 out of 5 bars on an iPhone but only 4 out of 5 bars on a Galaxy.

Obviously you have far too much time on your hands.
Scuba gear is in the post.

How right you are, at the moment! :(

Scuba gear is in the post.
:D

Be advised that I've changed my house name to, "SEAVIEW".

Have managed to test the NAD modem in a few places and for me, it is definitely noticeably better than previous versions I've used on KitKat. I'm not sure if it would be compatible with JB though.

Thanks old man.
Now what to do about flashing the new boot loader or not.......

Not too worried about it personally. The only reason that I can see to flash the new bootloader is to use the latest LTE modems. Since here, in the back of beyond, the nearest LTE services available to me, via Vodafone, are Birmingham or Bristol which are both about 40 miles away and I'm told by Vodafone that they will get LTE to me, locally, by 2015'ish... I'm not too fussed.
