Help Not receiving calls

I have a Galaxy S 2 D710

Sometimes the phone stops receiving calls. There seems to be no rhyme or reason.

When I'm at home and I call my cell phone from my land line, the Galaxy never rings. It goes directly to voice mail.

However, if I shut down the phone and resart it, it begins receiving calls again immediately....until it randomly stops again. It happens once or twice per day and almost every morning when I first try to use the phone.

Anyone have any suggestions?

take the battery out and put it back in
check if you have cell signal
can you recieve text messages?
if you cant then go to settings_about device_status and see if it says that its connected to a network and also look at the signal strength, service state, and if you are roaming

i have the same exact phone so i sort of know what you mean. mine goes of cell signal sometimes at random times so that also could be it

Thanks GM.
But if that was the case, why does it always work if I shut the phone off then back on? Seems if it was a network issue, shutting down and back on wouldn't always do the trick for a while?

Just curious why this thread was moved here?

My phone is not rooted?

Our logs show that none of the staff moved it, so it must have been a glitch - sorry about that.

Please use the report button for any screw ups like that, no telling when one of us is in the neighborhood. ;)

I've moved this over to the non-rooted area.

Ok - this may be informative (but very, very technical) -

Can toggling airplane mode actually improve your 3G data speeds? - Sprint 4G Rollout Updates

TL/DR - rather than a reboot, maybe airplane mode for 30 seconds and then back to normal may snag you a free channel.

I have family on Boost, I'm on Sprint, we've all had this same problem from time to time, doesn't matter what phone.

You might also want to go into your system updates main settings and update PRL and profile, in that order, and see if it helps.

It often doesn't because it's often a crowded channel problem or something but it sometimes does help because sometimes they make tower changes or sometimes that data might get corrupted on your phone.

Cheers!

You have the loss of service issue with your phone. Is it a black phone? Also what is the OS? Is it Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) or Jelly Bean (4.1)? Here is the deal...there was a lot of hardware bugs with the CMDA version of the S2 one of which also was a software issue and in later releases Sprint sent out fixes that were supposed to reduce the problems. One of the documented problems was the LOS bug. The loss of service bug is, you basically loose connection with the tower. You can be standing there looking at the tower and the phone does not even know it is there. So you reboot the phone and all is good again. In fact somebody on XDA wrote a program that periodically rebooted the phone automatically. I suspect if you go into settings, about phone you will see you have android version 4.0 (ICS). I would then update the phone to Jelly Bean (4.1). This will help, not fix, but help with the LOS issue.

if you have 4.0 then go here and read up and download kies (link on this page)

then download this (you choose if you want to root your phone or not it does all of the work for you).

Just remember that it will wipe out your phone so back up any thing you want to keep. let us know how you make out. good luck

Thanks for all the help.

REALLY appreciate it!

My phone hasn't done this in a few weeks now.

I suspect, as many have said, it's more the towers than the phone. I'm with Boost Mobile now and before that I was with Virgin Mobile and before than T-Mobile.

I think the less you pay per month, the more shakey your service. To get really good, fast consistent service I'm thinking you have to be paying in the neighborhood of $70 or more per month?

Could be totally wrong. But it's been my general observation.
