I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4. I was looking to trade with a local G2 owner for my S4...That was til I read this thread and others like it. It seems strange how Verizon is selling the G2 for under $100 while the S4 is still normal $199. Stores say its just a promo but I think these phones are having issues selling.

My question....should I swap? Have any of these issues been corrected. I want nice pictures and a strong IR transmitter as well as loud audio from the loudspeaker? I am posting here asking BEFORE I take the plunge and then regret it when its too late.

I even took video of the weak IR emitted from the G2 over the S4 and its insane how weak it is.

If a strong I/R is a top priority, the HTC ONE has a VERY STRONG I/R Blaster & a real nice U/I for it as well, one of the nicest touches on that phone.

I can't speak for the GALAXY S4,but,the G2 I/R seems to work better than the NOTE 3.

If you have a WI-FI connected TV,you should try one of the many WI-FI Remote apps in the PLAYSTORE.I've found they work as well,if not better than any I/R Remote.

With a plan, the LG G2 is on Amazon for 49.99 at the moment.

The IR blaster on the LG with Quick Remote could be better. I am not sure if other programs would result in a better signal, or its because of the IR LED they are using and the power supplied to it.

I find it convenient I can use it for this purpose when one of the kids has misplaced a remote, but it didn't factor into my selection of the device...

I wouldn't be purchasing the LG G2 for this feature, and if this is your primary point of comparison for purchasing a SMARTPHONE :smokingsomb:, then I'd look at another device.

If all you care about is the IR transmitter and a loud speaker then the LG G2 is not the phone for you. The IR transmitter in my G2 is really weak and the speaker is very mediocre. Not terrible just not great.

With that said, i believe the LG G2 is a better phone than the S4 in almost every way. It is faster, much better battery life and the camera is right on par with the S4 (if not better). I am really happy with my G2, i am glad i bought it over an S4 or Iphone 5S.

I was talking to a few T-Mobile representatives at the store when I got my G2 and they commented about the S4 being a hundred dollars more by saying, "Samsung must not want to sell any S4s." They also told me the G2 and Xperia Z1s were actually selling well. Putting these two comments together I'm assuming they are selling okay. A lot of people were looking at them at the store too (not sure if they were buying though).

I turned in my S4 a couple days ago for a G2 and I found the IR blaster actually works better than the S4 after initial setup. My devices seem to respond quicker when pressing the buttons on the G2 screen. I had some trouble initially setting up the IR blaster on my G2 (the power button would work instantly, but then trying the other steps of setting up my mute and input buttons was a little laggy and took a few tries). My S4 IR blaster worked pefectly during setup, but I mainly have all Samsung tvs and Blu-ray players.

At first I thought the speaker was definitely softer than the S4, which I thought was soft to begin with. After playing with settings a little bit the media volume for music is really loud and clear and I can hear my phone playing music just fine on a different level of my home. Speaker phone is loud and clear too. Some of the best sound I've ever heard when plugged into earphones as well.

My only concern from switching from the S4 to the G2 is build quality. I've never had an LG phone before and I'm not sure what to expect. My G2 looks extremely well made so I'm hoping it is.
