Root [Virgin Mobile] [ROM][PORT] Carbon KK 4.4.2 (2/5/2014 version for d2vmu)

I apologize for all my questions but I flashed the lean kernel and I don't like it too much so can I just flash a new kernel and be done? Or do I have to reflash the ROM and then the kernel?

Just flash a new kernel. I highly recommend dkp kernel. For the future, make a Nandroid backup of your ROM once it is set up the way you like it, before flashing a different kernel (making a backup before you do anything significant should be Standard Operating Procedure regardless!) and then you just have to restore the backup; flashing the same ROM will overwrite any customization you have done in terms of /system items, so this is why restoring a backup would be better. Flashing a newer nightly, if you are a user who likes to stay on top of the nightlies, will also revert to the stock kernel.

"Wipe for new ROM" includes everything except dalvik. Go to advanced options to do that.

Flashing a new ROM or dirty flashing a nightly will usually include a Dalvik wipe as part of the ROM script, there isn't really a need to specifically do it; this is a newer feature of Android by the way that didn't exist back in the day when you definitely had to do all the correct wipes for anything to work!

How come this ROM doesn't have features like Halo? On carbon's website they claim it to be a featured within the ROM but I don't see it

That part of the website is mainly features from JellyBean 4.3.x; a lot of the 4.3.x features are still being implemented in KitKat 4.4.x. Halo especially has presented problems for a lot of the devs trying to get it to work on KitKat. Due to changes from 4.3.x to 4.4.x, it isn't as simple as just "plugging it in." Plenty of Halo workarounds out there, including Floatifications from the Play Store.

Just curious, I saw one other post about getting the dumb voice mail text but I was unclear if there was a solution. There was a link to an app that supposedly simulated VM's voice mail service, but from user reviews it doesn't seem to fix the issue with receiving a sprint voice mail text message every time one gets a voice mail. Is there a fix for this? Not a huge problem, just kind of annoying to get texts with garbled html (or something) script every time I get a voice mail. Otherwise, I really enjoy this ROM! I was having issues with CM 11, but this ROM is smooth as silk.

Is there a setting to turn off auto wake
What I mean is to wake my phone I'd like to click a button. Now I can just pick up the phone and it will wake.

Look in settings for "pocket mode". I think it's in Carbon fibers/Lockscreen. It can be set to off, always, or only when there's a notification set. I believe there's a whole other group of choices in "active screen"...
