Gaming rig.... thoughts?

I know I am late, but that is more than enough to play those games man. Nice setup BTW, and happy gaming. :D Steam has Borderlands 2 for free for 3 days if you're interested in trying it before you buy it. :)
Also, when did the noise happen? Was it under load? Did you increase the fan RPMS to see if it was the fan?

it happened after it was installed and the cpu was turned on.
So I am unsure if it was hitting something internally or if it was just a faulty fan.

I dropped the r9 290x oc edition and went for a 780 oc edition.
$200 cheaper for nearly the same results, and since I am not running at extremely high resolution the 290x may not have been needed. but being refunded the money as soon as newegg gets it.

so to answer your question metroid the card was more than likely defective, which isn't a big deal since the intel cpu has a very nice 4660 HD graphics(it plays starcraft 2 on extreme settings with no lag).
The card comes in today and I will of course install it today and hopefully no noise, And it may be something with the fans and having to turn them down or something, but as soon as you turn on the PC you should never hear noise from a graphics card except for the fan spinning not ticking :)

also turns out the heatsink and fan would fit my pc, however it would never post, so once the fan was removed the system would post and boot.

so now I am looking for a good after market fan to keep everything cool as I am hoping to run everything below 40c

anyone have any thoughts on this:
Newegg.com - SILVERSTONE AR04 80mm CPU Cooler
SILVERSTONE AR04 80mm CPU Cooler
dont know much about silverstone but the RPMs are pretty nice 1500-3400 good air flow and very low noise.

If you want to save space, you could always go for one of the Corsair CPU coolers - Newegg.com - CORSAIR Hydro Series H90 High Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler. 140mm

If done right it can offer a more quiet alternative. Glad to hear you got another GPU. Really hope you like it. As for monitoring your Temps and controlling the GPU's fan you can download MSI afterburner or EVA Precision X if your card is EVGA. Both good programs I use Precision X. Sorry I can't offer any thoughts on an aftermarket cooler. I'm sure others will chime in on good solutions for you.

The only thing I hate about my GTX 770 Ti is the crappy drivers Nvidia produced for them. Constant black/blue screens because of driver panic and crashes at boot up (Windows). It's a known issue, but they have done nothing to address it.

But I agree that water cooling could be a better alternative if a) looking to save space and b) looking for a more silent solution.

actually the noise is no issue.

the new GPU is so quiet you can hear a mouse in the wall eating bread.

the power of this thing is amazing. So far my max temp is 49 Celsius.
I monitor it with the AI Suite III from Asus

Have you tried other driver versions or another GPU to see if it's that?

Had my 290x worked out of the box I would of course be loving it, however I did turn around and buy nearly the same card 780 from asus in the OC edition and it was almost $200 cheaper. And 1gb of mem less.
That 1GB of memory less is fine especially since it's 512 bit. Nice card, that thing will help you game very well.

its actually 384-bit
ASUS GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5 GeForce GTX 780 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Newegg.com - ASUS GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5 GeForce GTX 780 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
its not bad, its still a powerful card.
