so i have been on vzw since it was bell atlantic, nynex, etc.

have 3 smartphones and 2 basic phones with unlimited data paying 300/mo..

saw the att mobileshare, which gives me 15 g of data for 205. I don't use anywhere near 15gb, I don't think we have ever gone over 10,and it is normally like 6.

not wanting to change, i went to see what vzw could get me to

more everything gives me 8gb for 270? is this the best vzw can do.

This is costing me 1k a year to stay with vzw!

Or am I missing something?

The only thing you're missing is that Verizon is, and always was, the most expensive carrier. The smaller ones like Sprint, TMobile and Cingular (AT&T Mobility is a trade name owned by Cingular) can't just sit there and say "we're the best, so you pay what we tell you to pay", they actually compete. AT&T's new offering is a counter to TMobile's new offer. While Verizon sits there and says "we're above all that". Yet some people still stay with them when they have other choices. (If Verizon is the only carrier with coverage where you need it, you have no other choice.)

I tried AT&T on a GoPhone, wanted to see if I could leave Verizon or not. It was a not. I did get reception at my house but also dropped a call and had a few that were just bad. The signal was consistently weaker and just not trustworthy, my cell is my only phone and I work from home so really need it to be reliable. My other concern was the kid, he travels around a lot and I didn't want him with no coverage either. I decided to stick with Verizon and pay the price of having good service all over and not having to worry about it.

If you can try AT&T and see how it will work in your area and for your situation before switching do it. Ask around and see what others say about it (my neighbor did say they dropped a lot of calls and was right).

Verizon is really expensive but, in my case anyway, you do get what you pay for.

IIRC, you could pick up AT&T's new mobile share plan with 10GB of data for $100 with 3 smartphones @$40x3 and 2 basic phones @$15x2. In total, that comes out to $250 before discounts, taxes/surcharges, and additional features. With 15GB of data, that price would be an additional $30 @$280/month before taxes and surcharges. Unless you plan on buying the phone outright, may I ask where you got the $205/month figure from?
