I find the sound up/down very awkward to operate partly because of my Mofred cover. Has anyone been able to produce a slider on the screen like an iPhone?

Don't know what's on iPhone, but Slider Widget in Play store seems to offer what you want. You can choose 1x1 then change to volume only. The awkward placement of the hardware buttons on this device (clearly a step backward from gen 1 n7) forced me into buying another case (poetic slimline) which I did come to like very much. So far, the widget has worked without issue.

Now I've gone and done it! You'll never be the same again. (I understand iTunes has many more offerings, though.)
