Root Cyanogenmod 10 for Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-i8160

Now it should be noted this port of Cyanogen mod is not entirely glitch free but issues should be very rare and far fewer than with Samsung's stock JB firmware. If you DO run into a glitch (such as a small crash or Play store errors) then a simple restart should fix the issue and you'll be back to zipping through your Jelly Bean phone with virtually no slowdown. :)

AND...

Stability - The most recent builds of both Cyanogenmod 10 and 10.1 are both pretty stable and you'll rarely run into full system crashes. Of course, Samsung stock is still gonna be your best bet if your only interest is rock-solid stability.

So which statement is true then?

Neither anymore as thats rather outdated now. CM10.1 is now bug free, 10.2 is close to and 11 only has a minor glitch here and there. All are far faster than stock. Stock is always gonna have less bugs (until CM builds reach bug free status) but performance is always better on CM. The point however was that you make the choice and do so at your own risk. It's not for everyone.

Just an update to let people know there is now a fully working (but not bug free) CyanogenMod 11 which pushes our device to Android 4.4 KitKat. Will try to get links up when I'm home from gf's but not making any promises.

Hey how does it perform on kitkat? Is there a noticeable improvement over JB? (Im not bothered about features, just performance)
Thanks

Thanks mate. One more question. Does ART make a big improvement over Dalvik on the phone?

Not huge in my opinion. It does leave far more RAM available however. I've personally found ART to be rather unstable and a bit of a mess around getting the device to behave properly with it but that could just be me.

It should also be noted that CM11 is not entirely bug free. It does have its occasional small hiccups. Most notable being the rotation glitch and the Google logo disappearing from the search widget (a bug with Trebuchet on CM11)

and another dumb question, does the performance of cm10.2 varies depending on which baseband verion u have? we all know XXNA1, is better than XXMG2 right? does the baseband version play a role on cm10.2?

Hi there. Sorry for the late response. Everything seems to be on order for you although CM10.2 (make sure it's TeamCanjica's version) has a newer bug free build now. You can flash over your current JB firmware, just be sure to perform a full wipe. The baseband is only related to the modem and doesn't affect performance in the slightest.

thanks! CM10.2 perfectly working! wow, I've used XXMG2 for like almost a year, and I think I'm used to the MG2 speed. that's why when I flash CM10.2 it's incredibly fast!
although I havent change anything in performance menu(still dont have an idea about that stuff LOL goin to search more info about it later). wow this is great..

and about the newer bug free, are talking about CM11?

I flashed CM10.2 on Saturday, it works perfectly, very fast and the battery is holding up well. My ram is showing as 485, but I'm not bothered as the performance is excellent compared to the standard XXMG2.

This is so good it makes my S3 look so sluggish, so I will have to consider doing something with that, something KitKat maybe.

j800r I did get my CM10.2 from the XDA forum, but I was inspired to do this update after reading this thread, so I thank you for creating this thread and the effort you have put into it.

Cheers
Graham

There are a lot of kitkat custom ROM all over XDA forum make me confuse. Which one is most stable for daily use ? OP or anyone can you recommend me one ?
Hi there, I apologise for the late response but I've had a lot going on and aren't really active in these forums at the moment.

Neither CM11 release is completely bug free but whether you go for Maclaw (Team Nova) release or TeamCanjica release is entirely up to you. Both are on the same sort of level really.

Hi,

I just installed Cyanogenmod 10.1 on my Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 (JB XXMG2 version) today and I thought it has a feature to change the system fonts like the stock ROM but to my dismay it doesn't have it. So, I'm asking please if anyone knows how to change the system font, point me to the right direction :D. Thank you in advance and thank you to J800r for sharing this tutorial.

Thank you

Hi there. This thread is rather outdated now and since then CyanogenMod 11 has become available for our device. Not guaranteed 100% stable but more reliable than stock half the time in my opinion.

CyanogenMod comes with a theme engine which allows you to install themes that customise just about everything. This can sometimes include fonts in the CM11 theme engine but CyanogenMod doesn't include support for fonts in the same way the stock firmware does.

Oh I'm sorry I forgot to update my post here. I'm good already with regards to my font problem. Thank you for the reply. Appreciated. 👍 I found a solution using the ifont app (Donate version). I also updated from Cyanogenmod 10.1 to 10.2 using this tutorial. Thank you so much.

I'm hesitant to try Cyanogemod 11 as of yet till it gets a bug free version. I've read the comments on people about it on the official thread on XDA and some aren't good. So yeah, I can wait. Cyanogemod 10.2 is running smoothly on my phone. I love it 💕💞.

11 isn't all that bad really and bugs seem minimal now. 10.2 does get you on Android 4.3 though which is still an improvement on 4.1.2. If you're happy with what you've got then that's the most important thing. Glad this thread could be of some help, even if it is old/outdated now.

I'm planning to try Cyanogenmod 11 and I've already downloaded this version cm-11-20140807-UNOFFICIAL-codina.zip, but first I need to ask what major/minor bugs have you noticed. I have concerns too regarding a theme I love using on my 10.2, would it work for the CM11? And if I upgraded to CM11 and found out I didn't like it and want to switch/downgrade back to CM 10.2, what procedures would I need to do? Would greatly appreciate the inputs and help. Thank you so much in advance.

Sorry if my response took a while. As previously mentioned I'm not around these forums so much anymore.

Personally I'm on the latest build from NovaFusion and only real issue I've ran into is the very occasional wakelock but that may be left over from the last build. As for your theme, it depends on whether it says it's also for 11 as it uses a whole new theming engine. Then again you may find a theme for 11 you prefer even more.

If you wanted to go back just enter recovery, wipe data and cache, then flash CM10.2 again along with the appropriate gapps. That all being said, if you're content with 10.2 and not confident with flashing 11 then you may be better sticking where you are so long as you're not having problems.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

It's all good. Understand completely. Thank you for your reply. I think I'll just stick to Cyanogenmod 10.2 for now 'til there's a new bug free update on Cyanogenmod 11. 👍😁
