I recently got my Nexus 5 and I can say I am incredibly disappointed with the battery life.

Nonetheless - I was wondering if any of you could assist me with setting up my phone considering there are things that annoy me.

1. Is it possible to remove the volume warning everytime I increase the volume? Like really who left this in? I'm not dumb.

2. Is it possible to correlate the notification light with different apps? Orange for messaging and white for an email?

3. Best way to improve battery? I turned down my brightness

Welcome to AF! :)

How old is the handset? I never judge battery life on devices until they're a couple of weeks old.

That being said, there is a bug at the moment which is causing the camera to have a huge impact on battery life: http://androidforums.com/nexus-5/83...battery-drain-due-bug-in-camera-software.html

There's also a pretty big thread here you might find some decent info in: http://androidforums.com/nexus-5/791118-battery-life.html

You can also use the app Light Flow to control the colour of the LED: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlite

Not sure about the volume, sorry.

If you dont use google now, you might as well turn off location reporting. Also, turn off "scanning always available" in the advanced wifi settings. And turn location mode to Battery Saving until you need to use GPS for instance.

Also, could be a poorly written app you've installed that's keeping the phone awake.

I have had 6 or so androids and the battery life on the N5 is significantly better than any of the preceding ones. I know there are some issues out there like the camera bug and apps have a lot more freedom to screw things up on Android than on an Iphone but in the absence of all that you should experience battery life at least as good as an Iphone 4.
I use "battery mix" for general monitoring and expect no more than 2-3% per hour when not using it.
I also use "Better battery stats" for trouble shooting and expect 75-80% of processor time to be deep sleep based on my usage which is quite high.
If your stats are significantly worse than this you are either using it a lot or something is wrong. check our the "wakelocks" and "alarms" displayed in better battery stats and see if anything is outstanding like a single wakelock much greater than all the rest then google it or post back here.

Diagnosing battery issues is hard with the stock options available on the device. It could be low signal, could be a rogue app, could be background syncing, or a number of other things.

I'd suggest downloading an app like betterbatterystats (my preferred, but paid) or GSAM battery monitor (free, but not as informative IMO), charging the phone to 100%, and then when it gets low to check what the app reports.
