Root [Verizon] Root Issue

I bought my S3 used, and it was already rooted. It seems to periodically be running VERY slowly, lots of lag, and some screen taps taking literally 30 seconds to register. I'd like to change ROMs to see if that is the issue (currently running "The Executioner", as it was on the phone when I bought it). The problem is that I don't think the phone is rooted correctly. Root Checker Pro says "Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted". And, as such, Titanium Backup does not work. I'd hate to have to recreate all my folders, and lose all my app data, seeing as I can't backup.

Any ideas?
