Same here. Never happened until after 4.3 update. Don't know how or why, but its only happened a few times. Seems like I've only seen it at night when laying in bed. I don't know why that would have any impact, but that's when I've seen it. Perhaps if the phone is trying to figure out if it needs to auto rotate or not.

I'm rooted with stock Sprint 4.3 ROM

This happened on mine two days ago. I was in the middle of a text, holding it in an upright position and hadn't rotated my phone at all. The strange part is that the text is not just upside down but mirror image. (backwards) Has anyone figured out why this happens yet?

I had the exact same thing happen a few days ago, except I wasn't texting; I was checking Facebook. The bar kept flipping back and forth every few seconds for a few minutes. Then it stopped and I haven't seen it again since. I'm not rooted, 4.4.2 on Virgin Mobile USA.

Not too concerned if it doesn't cause any problems, but it sure is a strange little glitch!

My phone has done this a few times without rhyme or reason, I can count the amount of times with 2 hands in the past year, but that is not the worst issue. The worst issue is the incredible battery drain, even when my phone is on power saving mode. Within 3-4 hours, my phone is dead. It seems as if the last software update created a lot of issues for me, including my phone's rejection of car chargers. I have a charger at home and in my office, and I don't mind having to constantly be plugging in, it's being on a road trip and being unable to plug in my phone that is a big issue. My temporary solution was buying a spare battery, but this is tedious at best, and having to open and close the cover multiple times a day has caused some cracking of the plastic.

By the way, I tested the car chargers with my sister's boyfriend's S4 and they worked, so I know it's my phone. Also, the charge meter will sometimes reach 99% after 4 hours of charging, other times, only 89% after being on the charger for 12 hours. It makes no sense. Once I take it off the charger, 5 minutes later it will say 97% (huh??) and 2 hours later, 51%. This happens with both the old and new battery! This is my second S3, as the other one's home key would not work and I had to file a claim with Asurion. I am very disappointed with the Galaxy phones. My HTC G1 lasted me 5 years without replacement, these have barely lasted a year without having problems. I am going to do a factory restore but if that does not work, I will be switching to another non-Samsung Android device.
