Would you still buy the G2 today?

I had concerns prior to purchasing my G2 because I'm on Sprint and they're having issues with the new tri-band LTE. That was really my only concern going into the purchase. After having the phone for 3 months the phone hangs up on 3G even when in solid LTE zones. It's not a consistent problem but it does happen regularly and this is more of a Sprint issue than an LG issue. I'm sure Sprint will get their act together at some point.

If that were the only problem I'd be satisfied. However, I've had two other issues related to the phone itself. Knock on/off worked beautifully out of the box but about 2 months in, knock on stop working. Knock off worked fine but knock on worked only when the device was cold and even then only ~5% of time. The other problem was the GPS locking. Half the time it would lock onto a sat instantly but other times it would take a minute+ or never lock on at all.

I sent the phone to LG for a warranty repair last week. Hopefully they're able to fix the hardware issues. I should have the device back tomorrow or Monday and will update.

To the point of the thread. If these issues are resolved I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the phone again. Hell, just for the knock on, battery, and IR blaster alone this phone is incredible. Not to mention the sub 10 second boot time!

At first I had my doubts. But it was between the g2. Optimus g pro. Or the galaxy mega with att.
After a week my only bad feelings about this thing are because flashing back to 4.2 made me lose everything since my laptop don't have enough free space to backup 17gb of music I've downloaded. And the fact that I haven't been able to get cwm on this thing yet

Interesting .. I haven't had any problems with LTE dropping off. Maybe it's a tower. Are you near legacy towers?

No, not according to Sprint. Although they do say towers are being upgraded and that is more than likely the issue. I travel about 40 miles to work and about 80% of the trip is in solid LTE areas. My old gnex gets LTE in all these areas fine. It's definately something with the triband on this device and the protocol Sprint uses. I'm hoping once spark is implemented it will fix the issues.

It's not really all that horrible. I still get service and with a simple airplane mode toggle I get LTE as well.

It's definitely a problem... but it isn't just the LG G2. Sprint has not been forthcoming based on what I've read.

Would make me want to switch carriers honestly.

I've read all the same with respect to their triband issues. Some have it much worse than I. I've heard others with a triband phone say their phones won't connect to LTE at all, along with missed calls etc.

All things being equal I would switch carriers. However, I'm on a framily plan with 7 lines and pay only $25 per month for my line! It is making me consider a non triband phone though.

I've had my G2 for only 2 weeks now, coming from a Razr Maxx which I thought was very good battery life even after 2 years. The LG G2 is exponentially faster than any phone I have ever seen and tried; I won't go into all the details you can read others posts here for that, but I'm a researcher, and tester and tryer-outer, and this phone simply blows me away. I seriously considered the HTC One because I was extremely happy with my first ever Android phone the original Incredible. Very solid and good looking, and Sense is nice. But I'm a power user and appreciate all the smaller nuances and differences that maybe the casual user may dismiss, and the LG came out on top over all the others and it wasn't close in my opinion. The One, for me, came in third, behind the S4.

When my wife and I first got our Verizon G2s about 2 weeks ago, I had serious LTE issues. My wife and I got identical phones and she was ALWAYS on LTE and I was NEVER on LTE. I went back to the store and they replaced the SIM card with a new one and now I'm always on LTE. Give that a shot.

I have the Verizon VS980 and would buy it again in a heartbeat!
The size is just perfect, the HTC M8 is a tad too tall for me.

Love the battery, screen size, Knock On etc. everyone else in this thread has already highlighted strengths and weaknesses.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is the wireless charging the Verizon model comes with. I love, love, love it and would not wanna go back anymore!

I was slow to get onboard with the non-removable battery but I've come to appreciate it. Seems to me they're getting more power into a slimmer design with them. If all phones had the battery life of the G2, I'd quit worrying about the topic altogether each time I research a new phone.

Same goes for no sd slot. I used to rage against that, now not so much. That being said, I don't house a ton of large files on my phones and I won't buy anything shy of 32 GB for internal storage. 16 GB isn't even a considerable option for me anymore. The rom size of the G2 is far too big and the app sizes are going through the roof compared to back in the day. Used to be apps were measured in kb, now it's MB and many are well up into the double digits.

I felt that same about removable batteries and sd card slots as recent as last year, but then I saw the G2. When people began reporting amazing results off of one charge I started to think more: I've never had to change batteries in a phone before so why worry about it? LG's Web site for the G2 explains their battery design succinctly and it sold me.

I kind of relate the sd card slot thing to cable tv like this: having more channels isn't always great because you can't watch them all and they aren't all airing high quality programs. My wife and I canceled cable three years ago and haven't missed it, our tv watching has become more focused and the programs we watch are of higher quality (not just mindless channel surfing). Same thing with having around 28 GB of storage on my G2: I'll only keep music, movies, and apps of the highest quality on my phone instead of having EVERYTHING taking up room, some of which I'd never use again. LG has made moving things back and forth from my storage easier with the wireless storage feature. That sold me.

Sprint uses a different setup then other carriers. We don't have access to the sim card. The LTE issues on Sprint are related to the triband hardware and the way they communicate with the towers. It's a known issue with no real solution.

I've heard that the kitkat update will make some changes to Spark and hopefully alleviate some of the problems. Again, Sprint is the issue not the G2.

Since I'm on my 3rd one for various reasons, I would not buy this phone again. Yes the camera is good, but the Gps on most of the verizon versions is Shaky at best, which is why I got this latest replacement. I've replaced for a bad digitizer, and bad reception is why I replaced my first one. So if you are buying on verizon I would say find something else, like the note 3. I know a few people with it and they love it. Or if good battery life is what you are after look at the Droid Maxx if you are on verizon. The note 3 is good on battery life as well. The slow updates Which is partly verizon's fault and LG's track record, just don't know if I want another LG phone because of these things. This is just my 2 cents however.

Creator69...
Sorry to hear of your experiences. My g2 on vzw is solid. For GPS, out of habit over the years with various Android phones, periodically I run GPS status. It seems to help when I haven't used GPS in a long time... Useful on any Android make and model phone.

I tried every one of those GPS "Fix" programs and it did not help. I drove to Wisconsin and back and didn't get signal once. I tried Waze and google navigation and google maps, and was not able to get a signal. So I can tell you the last one I had the GPS was junk. If you google g2 gps problem, you can see it is a wide spread problem not just stuck to verizon. The one I just received has no issue with GPS. I just seem to get stuck with bad phones. First the Bionic which we all know how that went. Now i'm on my 4th g2, since I can't seem to get one that will work for more than a month without something going wrong with it. I really want to like this phone, but it is hard when I have to keep sending it back.

Even though i had problems with my first G2 F320 (Korean Version) which rendered it unusable i still went ahead and replaced that faulty G2 with, you guessed it another LG G2 F320. Would i get it again today yes, but to be honest the latest HTC One M8 (or HTC Two) would have me thinking twice if they were both available and i had to choose. Although i would imagine that whilst you get a premium metal chassis and a slightly faster processor there would be a significant price difference between the older G2 and the newly to be released HTC One M8. From what i have read the HTC one m8 has practically everything the G2 has (knock on, remote) and the all important micro sd card slot (well for me anyway)

So in a few months time if you asked me which i would choose i would probably go HTC because i could buy one from a local retailer instead of importing one which is good especially if things go wrong (like it did with my first g2) its cheaper and easier if you need to claim on your warranty.

But for today its still IMO the best phone available so if you cant wait go for it you wont be disappointed. Dont forget the LG G2 is a phone thats almost a year old and the fact that it still can match it newly released phones speaks volumes about it. Hopefully the G3 can do the same as its predecessor

*Update*

I received the phone back from LG repairs and they fixed the knock on issue. No real explanation to the solution other than a page that was included saying "old software, installed new software". WTH this really means I don't know. I was on android 4.2 when I sent it in and was still on 4.2 when I received so...

As for the LTE issues there's no change. It still hangs up on 3G in strong LTE areas. I decided to try disabling LTE bands 26 & 41 to see if that may help. It helped a little. Still hangs up in 3G but not as frequently.

I've only had the phone back for 2 days but it looks like the GPS issues were fixed as well. Each time I've used GPS it locks instantly so that's good.

Also, I updated to KK since I got the phone back but that didn't resolve the LTE issues.

Overall I'm satisfied.

I'm about to sell my G2, T-Mobile, unlocked, white, rooted w/TWRP. $390 shipped to the 48 continental US. PM if interested.

sold.
now, either G2 Pro or G3.
meanwhile, F6 is going to be my main phone.

That didn't take long.No surprise @ that price. The F6 seems to be more than adequate to hold you over until the G PRO 2/G3 arrive.

We'll see ya over there when they become available.

Thank you sir.

Gone with the wind.

It was a very good phone. Unfortunately it had all the shortcomings of Nexus.

At the end I had 3GB available on the "internal SD".

Can't wait for G3.

first let me say that I am a 76 yr old luddite
My phone is a LG g2 intl version, 16 GB ATT version which I use on Straight talk.
I bought it on ebay and it was not offered as a intl version and came in all chinese.
I contacted the seller and he offered either a fix to get in english or let me return it.
He said the only problem might be with 4g.
I wish I had returned it.
The fix for English I couldn't make work but 30 seconds in the hands of my 19 yr old grandson fixed this.
Other issues are low volume for the ringtones and i have the volume turned up all the way.
I cant hear the phone ring in a noisy environment and the vibrate hardly tickles.
The double tap to turn the screen on sometimes turns into a double double or sometimes a multiple double tap to turn on.
I downloaded an app which was supposed to alleviate this but it hasnt.
Now to the intl version issue.
I called tech support us and was told that they couldn't help me with this version.
this forum however has been veery helpful.
In short, I wouldnt buy this again.
so much for my rant.
