OEM Data cable

Hello there,
I bought the Motorola Moto G few days ago. I received the charger for the phone but no data cable(the cable is fitted to the charger and is nondetachable). Now, I happen to be a developer and I test my apps on my phone. I already have a data cable which came with my old Samsung Galaxy S duos. Can I use the Samsung data cable for my new Moto g phone?
Please help

When I bought my MG from Motorola back in December, it came with a data cable but no wall charger. I've been using my old Samsung Stratosphere phone's charger without issues.

I would assume your data cable from your phone should work okay. It may just be a matter of how fast of throughput it put out.

The cable(from Samsung) fits in the micro usb slot of the Moto g.
My concern is will it cause any harm to the motherboard of Moto g, since the cable is manufactered by Samsung.

I don't believe the data cable will cause any harm. I've used all types of data cables with my Strat phone, it was my first smartphone, while at work. It's just some older cables may take awhile to fully charge the phone if its not getting the right voltage or whatever it's called.

I used the data cable that came with the MG at work only. At home, luckily, the wife had got a Motorola cable for her Samsung S3 when she needed a replacement and I use it for data. It has the data & wall charger in one thingy.

Connecting your phone to a computer with a non OEM charger won't harm the phone as that is just a USB cable at that point. The issue you may have depending on the quality of the cable and the manufacturer of the phone is it just plain not working.

The USB port on the computer only puts out .5A of power. Many (most?) chargers you would plug the cable into put out from 800mA (my OG Droid) to 2.4A (some of the 10" tablets).

We've had similar discussions on here before. My takeaway is that cables are rarely an issue - except in so far as some super cheap ones just don't work

There are some dodgy 3rd party chargers that could fry a phone, but again, the vast majority are fine. A slightly higher Wattage simply charges the phone a tad faster.

Where you're more likely to run into issues is having a charger that isn't rated high enough: big screen phones use a lot of juice and charging with them with a low ampage charger (anything under 1.0 - 1.2 amps) while they're in use (e.g. as a GPS) can mean the phone uses more juice than the charger provides so it will eventually die .. despite being on a charge :eek:

Best to check the wattage of the charger that came with the phone and try to stick to something similar - not as easy as it sounds as most chargers seem to still be sub-1.0A

I connected my moto g with my PC using the cable I mentioned. Its all good
The phone is charging and I can transfer data.

I would suspect the Samsung cable would be both.

To the OP, I don't think you could possibly ever damage a phone by using the wrong cable, assuming it has the correct USB plug. I'm not even sure you could ever damage a phone by using the wrong transformer--it would be unusual for a transformer to have a USB plug and be the wrong voltage (as opposed to wrong amperage).

In terms of charging just read the label on the charger. AFAIK a higher amp rating means it will charge quicker, USB obviously charges slower. I've used different chargers with no ill effects but they must be the same voltage output to the one that is supplied with your phone.
