LG G2 or Nexus 5

Hello. I now have possibility to buy a new phone. Before i knew LG G2 i was looking into Nexus 5. And after some time I dicovered that LG G2 costs the same as nexus 5 in my country. I saw and read a lot of reviews and I think I will buy LG G2, but in my country forums people say that LG's are terrible, they say that there are a lot of problems with LG's. Is they right? I should buy LG anyway or buy other brand phone?

As far as internals, the two could not be more identical. Both rock the snapdragon 800 processor and 2gb of ram. They have the same 1080p ips lcd display but it is only 5" on the nexus and 5.2" on the g2.it really comes down to which software you prefer. Nexus will of course always be on the forefront in terms of software version but some may find the stock android lacking in features. The g2 is loaded with lg's skin which I hear is extremely bloated and often results in redundancies when trying to make things more convenient. Build quality may also be a deciding factor, the nexus 5 has a very minimal design made of soft touch plastic, some call it understated while others find it downright ugly. The g2 is made of the same type of plastic you see on phones like the galaxy s4. The thing that will stand out right away is that the power and volume buttons are sitting on the back under the camera. In my own use of the g2 I found myself double tapping the screen to wake it (a software feature) instead of feeling around for the button. If it were up to me I'd pick the nexus 5 in white.

Since the hardware is mostly identical, with the only difference being the size of the screen and the battery capacity, the biggest deciding factor will be software. One advantage the Nexus has is that it has only one layer (Stock Android). The G2 has two layers (Stock and LG skin). If there is a problem with the android software, Google will get the update out sooner that LG would because once Google releases the fix, LG would then have to reskin it.

LG doesn't have the greatest reputation for providing android updates, but I'm hoping that they fix that moving forward and thus far it seems like they are.

Overall, you can't go wrong with either device and it will come down to which one feels better to you or if long term support with fast updates means a lot to you.

I'm thinking about LG G2 because it has bigger battery, and bigger screen for almost the same price (in my country). And I like a lot of features about LG G2 and I prefer LG G2 software because I'm using android 4.4.2 (Cyanogenmod) version on my old samsung and it is simple but it don't have a lot of features. Thanks for opinions, but I'm still waiting for more even if I'm already decided.

P.S I heard that LG have a lot of problems. Is that true?

I think it was true in the past, but I think they've improved quite a bit. They do lock their bootloaders though and it can make using custom roms more difficult depending on current exploits available (boot-strapping, loki, etc). At least with a Nexus, you get peace of mind knowing that you won't have to deal with that. If you've used CM, then you already know more or less the feel of a Nexus though there are numerous more roms than that available that offer even more features.

No matter the choice, good luck and enjoy. :)

I almost bought a Nexus 5, and then I got to play with the G2. I was sold instantly. The UI that LG has on the G2 is pretty dang functional. I still have my phone running the stock launcher it came with. Sprint has recently updated my G2 to KK, and it's that much better now. The already fast and snappy UI is a little more snappy, and the long lasting battery lasts just a little longer than before. Oh, and don't forget that the Nexus 5 is an LG phone as well. ;)

Gorilla Glass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to this, GG3 is up to 3x more damage resistant, and 40% more scratch resistant than GG2.

If you follow practical recommendations of others, you will put some form of screen protector on your phone's new screen, and put some form of case on the phone.

Most probably, you wouldn't use these factors as criteria for your selection.

No doubt though, it makes more $$$ for Corning. :D

I too had to decide between the Nexus and the G2, and eventually went with the G2. A major factor for me was RF ability, which in the US at least was a point in favor of the Nexus by a large margin. However, even though the G2's RF performance wasn't as good as the Nexus, it was sufficiently better than my old phone that the the screen and battery life swayed me. You haven't mentioned which country you are in or what service provider(s) you have to deal with, but I would recommend that you take a good look at RF performance before deciding. And also have a hands-on try-out at the store, of course, preferably side-by-side if possible.

RF stands for Radio Frequency.

"RF performance" is a loosey goosey subject.

It could mean radiated power, or sensitivity or both or something else. There are multiple "radios" in a typical cell phone, so I really don't know where the poster is making the assessment from. Perhaps that person will respond.

In general I think the poster was implying the Nexus had a stronger cellular radio... but the poster might have been refering to the particular bands supported. I have no idea.

You'd have to see the particulars of the FCC Filings I imagine to be able to compare up the radios, but then, it might not be a simple apples/apples comparison.

Another question. I'm a heavy gamer I like to play games like GTA, Modern combat and so on. Can this phone play it without any lag. In my country there is no 32gb version of LG G2. So 16gb should be enough?

The phones have the same processor and GPU, so there will be no difference in performance. However, due to the size of the games, hard drive space could be an issue. The LG stock rom is larger than the stock rom of Nexus 5 so there's even less space available to start.

Definitely no lag to speak of. The G2 runs whatever you throw at it smooth as butter.

So how were you planning to purchase any phone... mail order? You can't walk into a store and get a Nexus can you? I don't think that it's possible in the states, so I'm confused with your latest response.

Sounds like you have no time pressure to purchase any phone. Perhaps your real need is for an awesome tablet to play games on.

The G2 is a great communication device. Yes you can play games on it. however, personally, I think that isn't the criteria you should be using, as I consider it a nice to have. However your criteria will not be the same as those of others. Only you can decide that.

Seems you're at a point where you are looking to others to tell you what to do. If that is the case you need to re evaluate your real needs and wants in a device.

Good luck.

Hello. I enjoy my LG G2 a lot, awesome phone, but I have one question. My LG G2 is internetional one and after 3 days of use it has small scratches on the camera lens. It was just 3 days and I was carefull, I put screen protector and case. Will these scratches affect photo's quality?

If they're just small scratches then I think you'll be alright. But I read that some versions of the phone come with a different material for the camera lens.
