Use HTC Browser on M8 - Hides On Screen Navigation Buttons

HTC has thought of everything. I'm done with Chrome and switching to the stock browser. The stock HTC browser will hide the on screen navigation buttons and the top menu bar after a page loads. Chrome will only hide the top menu bar. I like the implementation of HTC better. So if you want full use of the screen on the M8, switch browers.

Just a little more info on that:

You must go into Settings> General and select Fullscreen mode.

There are a lot a lot of other cool features, including the quick controls option under labs. It is definitely worth checking out. Google put some thought into the new browser update. It's too bad it's being replaced by Chrome on a lot of devices.

Anyone notice the sh%&y bookmarks in Chrome? It's like nobody put any effort into how a bookmark icon should look. HTC bookmarks are an actual screen shot of the webpage. Chrome, you have failed me. What was I thinking leaving my HTC browser? Not to mention, I don't always have to select the "desktop box" with the HTC browser. With the Chrome browser the box automatically deselects itself.

Sol, I never checked the full screen setting for it to go into full screen mode. This must have been in their update or something.

It's not flashed, rooted anything. Completely stock as was my gs3. Not all variants of the m8 come with the stock aosp browser. Mine came with chrome and the stock browser.
I use the stock as its the same as my gs3. I like been able to have full screen mode and use labs to have quick controls. They are the same browser.

Ok. Time for me to put this to rest. The "Internet" browser on the M8 is the stock AOSP (Android Open Source Project) browser created for android. It was not designed by HTC.

A lot of devices have replaced the stock AOSP browser with Chrome.

We were fortunate and got both. I hope this clears things up.

This is my final post on this topic :p I don't think apologies are necessary lol :) Everyone has a little different understanding of things... Now with that cleared up let me be more specific about the AOSP browser.:

The AOSP browser is the same across all newer android devices that carry the AOSP version. HTC may make some "under the hood" modifications for the purposes of integration, but it is nothing you will see on the front-end and the browser, while open source was coded by Google. The AOSP browser contains the same functionality for all devices that have on screen controls instead of capacitive buttons.

Either way it doesn't matter, the browser is better than the chrome one on my opinion. Now that is my question. Who likes which browser, and why?

SolApathy seems to be only partially correct since it appears that the Verizon version did NOT come with the the AOSP/Sensitized browser. If you are rooted and want it, go here to get it.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708597 I just reviewed my apks (both system/app and data/app) and no "browser.apk" suggesting this may be more complicated than an apk sideload. So if you aren't rooted, we will need to get someone with more experience to guide us on a apk sideload.
