Root TWRP Backup Fails

I upgraded to Viper4G last night, including the new recovery, TWRP 2.7.0.0b.
I have configured the phone and installed all my apps and I am trying to run a TWRP Backup and it keeps failing. I tried to backup to internal storage and micro sdcard. Internal storage has 9982MB free and sdcard has 39868MB free so it is more than enough space.

I have Boot, Data and System checked, no encryption, no compression and the skip md5 generation check box is empty and I tried it with it checked.

[Backup Started]
* Backup Folder: /external_sd/TWRP/BACKUPS/HT2###/2014-04-16--14-41-07 JSS15Q/
Backing up System...
Updating partition details...
* Total number of partitions to backup: 3
* Total Size of all data: 2692MB
* Available space: 37436MB
Then at the top of the window I get:
Backup Complete
Failed
Any ideas on how to backup?

Did you use the recommended firmware+recovery download per step 2 of the rom instructions?

Viper4G Install Instructions

  1. IF YOU HAVEN'T UPDATED TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE/RECOVERY FOLLOW THE NEXT TWO LINES EXACTLY!
  2. Please Follow Directions in Capt's thread here. (I recommend using the "4.13.651.4 Firmware + TWRP Recovery" file.
  3. Download the the latest Viper4G full ROM zip
  4. Place the file somewhere on your phone storage. Alternatively, if you have a USB OTG cable (I have this exact one), you can place the rom on a USB key (FAT32, NTFS are all supported).
  5. Confirm the MD5 on the download page matches the MD5 of the file on your phone (ES File Explorer will show the MD5 of the file)
  6. Reboot to TWRP Recovery
  7. Backup current ROM if desired
  8. Install ROM using TWRP and select wipe during aroma install if coming from another base
  9. Reboot and Enjoy

    If Aroma hangs up, reboot your recovery by holding power until phone resets...then before it begins booting up, hold volume down, load into recovery and try again.
I'm guessing that it contains an older version of TWRP or a patched version.

Per this post here: it sounds like the new TWRP doesn't support the new partition layout. I'm assuming you have the new partition layout??
See: This Post

Also from the same post that step 2 links to above, captain throwback has a download for a newer version of TWRP:
TWRP Recovery 2.7.0.4b (fixes uncompressed backup issue)

Not sure if that's the issue you're having, or if it's the same version included with the firmware but you may try that version if you want as well. If it doesn't work, use the version that the rom instructions suggest.
