Help DROID Incredible random restart/reboot problem

I'm in NYC area, had one random reboot after 24 hours of having the phone running and since then, no more. I had installed Swype beta and had a hunch it was that so I uninstalled it and so far no problems. Might still happen but it's definitely not as frequent as people are reporting.

FWIW, after the reboot happened, I went dialed *228 and then 2 for a PRL update. My reboot happened while in an elevator (no signal) but since the PRL update and uninstalled Swype (might be unrelated) I no longer have issue yet.

Hey Guys/Gals....

I started this thread and there is already several others talking about this issue.

It is a Network Issue (Confirmed by myself through a VZW Tech Support Coordinator). It is being worked on and should be resolved within 24 hrs. I would also recommend performing a *228 Option 2, this seems to have helped some members, but I'm pretty sure you have to do it outside of the affected (Triad) area. I'm leaving Durham soon and traveling back to Burlington area, I wil advise if the issue continues after a update.

Stopped by the local Verizon store to get a phone cover and to get an update on the issue. I was told the issue is isolated to the Triad area and somewhere in Louisiana. They offered to reactivate my old phone until the issue was resolved. Sounds like the stored have some leeway in any actions they take to appease the customer.

Just wanted to chime in: I live in Roxboro, NC but work in Chapel Hill, NC and I've had one random reboot since receiving the phone. At least I'm pretty sure it randomly rebooted. I remember checking it before I left from work and the uptime was over 12 hours and when I got home it said the uptime was a little over an hour. I keep the phone in my pocket, so I may have accidentally powered it off while driving, but I doubt it.

I pre-ordered online on April 19 and received it from FedEx on April 28. The phone originated from Memphis, TN. The first thing I did after unboxing was to plug in the battery and charge the phone with the power off. Once it was fully charged I powered it on an activated it. As soon as it was activated i did a *228, option 2. The only apps I have installed are Astro and MLB At Bat 2010.

The signal is very poor at my house (practically non-existent) and my office is underground (usually get 1-2 bars max). I haven't had any random reboots while actually using the phone. I've been letting the battery drain completely at night (two cycles so far), and my current uptime is a little over 16.5 hours.

I dont know if its as isolated as yall think. I am in New Orleans and had 3 reboots in a row this morning. Nothing since. I just updated the prl, so I am going to watch it a bit before I decide to return it.

yeah I don't know if I should take mine back. Seems like its the device.. There must be some network issue that when it occurs, triggers a reboot..

FWIW, Long Island area outside NYC. Pre-ordered April 26th and received April 29th. Shipment came from Texas (I think that's what the FedEx tracking said). No reboots at all and phone is working perfectly.

It may just be that this network condition hasn't occured yet on the tower you are hitting.. Mine was happening all morning and now no reboots in several hours.

So are you saying the Moto Droids were rebooting in the same fashion when they were first released?

yes moto droids did the same thing. myself included, went back to store swapped mine out and got a fresh one the next day, no more reboots

What i suggest is this. Do not install any apps right away when you get your phone. Although i dont think its apps causing the reboot. Its easy to eliminate that if you dont have any. Say for the first day. If your phone is defective it will reboot soon as you take it home. It will just reboot while your flipping through menu's or whatever. As with anything produced in mass quantities, some will fail. This phone is no exception.

Task killers. While some people say they are usless, i disagree. However i dont think you should run them constantly. I just use it right after a boot up because the phones love running every stupid thing you have installed. I end up killing like 30 apps at boot. After that the phone only keeps roughtly 7 or so in memory which is fine.

Other people, including myself, stated that the phone rebooted while we trying to do the initial setup for the phone. Mine rebooted twice while I was trying to go threw the initial setup. I can listen to pandora for 2 hours outside with one reboot in between, but when I walk inside it reboots 3 times in 5 mins.

Well, I just signed up, I am in NC, I knew of the problem going in. After about 30 minutes of activation it started acting up. Well I fired up a few programs and ripped the OS apart. I do believe, and I am not very sure of some ends of this, but I do believe its a firmware update needed. This seems to be due to the OS + Hardware + Tower all not communicating properly. Im thinking, and like I said, not to sure with the towers and signals, there are certain towers that are sending out different IDs that are not making the OS and hardware to happy, thus causing a reboot.

Hopefully it will be out soon and they will push the OTA fix to us.

I think it's a phone issue. I have already switched back to my old phone due to missing calls from the reboots. I have played around with the Incredible while it is not activated on the network and it still reboots like crazy. Now please correct me if I'm wrong, but how does a phone that is not connected to the network, still reboot if it has network issues?

CBOB.................nice work. I confirmed this with VZW in the Greensboro area. It has to do with the "Network Switch" between towers and it is isolated (mostly) to Greensboro, Burlington, and Winston-Salem. The issue is being "frantically" worked on by IT personnel and "should" be resolved with in 24 hours the most.

We will see!

Am I being unreasonable if I'm very disappointed that Verizon isn't letting us know that they have acknowledged the problem & are working on it? It seems as if the 336 area code is the hardest hit with this problem. Boy, even a short text message would be nice.

Correction: It looks like a NC problem, not just 336 area code.

this is a network issue IMHO. Mine reboots every single time I switch towers. I sit here at the house with wifi turned off all day long with no reboot..hop in the car and head for winston and BANG reboots.

Sunday round 4pm, I'm heading to NJ in the car. I'll be real interested to see if my reboot issue goes away.

Other than this endearing reboot issue, phone is pretty gawtdamned perfect. LOL

/edit when I called 611 the analyst I talked to had no acknowledgement of a systemic issue, but that doesn't surprise me.
