Root [ROM][BETA][4.4.2] SlimKat for Virgin Mobile and Sprint 4/7/2014

People using the ZTE Awe is trying to get me a device in my hands to I can start deving for it.

That's cool. I've been to the Optimus f3 and ZTE Awe forum and they're really desperate for a dev to be able to make a cm10 ROM. But I heard that devs won't do the optimus f3 due to lack of usable memory which would make sense. If I knew more about android software I'd love to make ROMS myself

Installed the latest build, and it's working beautifully. A little laggy at first, but after it gets a workout from average use, it's actually quite quick and smooths out. Disabling some of the animations speeds things up significantly, or the feel of it. Haven't used it long enough to judge battery life, but it seems like it may be suffering slightly compared to 4.2.2

I tried ART, and on top of longer downloads from PS and longer installs, there's also quite a few apps that can't be downloaded or installed at all under ART, and I had quite a few errors and failures in the process, and no noticeable improvements in load times for apps. I'd stick with Dalvik for now.

Thank you again for your work Phenom!

My elite gets really hot when using 3G. Anyone else experiences this? Never had it get this hot so fast on other roms.

I haven't used 3G for anything data intensive, but as far as just being connected, I haven't had any issues with overheating. I am having issues with my phone switching back and forth from 1x to 3G when I have good 3G coverage in the area the issue is happening.

This happens with all Elite's I've ever had in my hands, my cousin's, my aunt's, my mother's and mine, Mine is the only one rooted and running a custom rom so it might just be one of those things that's different with every Elite.

I have the 4/07 version currently, so that may be the issue, curse my incompetence to check for the newest release! haha, I shall download the newest version and report back if I continue to have issues. Other than the that little regression from the now outdated build it's running like a dream from the domain of child eagerly awaiting the next morning to explore Disneyland! I also wish to discuss the possibility of this method I found on XDA to port roms: [GUIDE]Port Any ROM - Revised - Now Easier! - xda-developers is this possible to do on an Elite? As I really do want to port AICP from here: [D2LTE]~~AICP~~4.4.2_r2--4.0~[STABLE]+[NIGHTLIES]-APR~19 - xda-developers as I have a Galaxy S3 that runs this beautifully, and I'm wondering if it's possible to use this rom as a base for it. What do you think phenomx4? Can this be done?

I've installed this after running out of memory far too much with CM11. Not sure where all the memory goes with either of them. I start with > 275mb free and then run an app and it's almost all gone. At least this one respects the "run only 1 app in background" which seems to help, but really, running out of memory seems very common.

I've got an old Optimus V which I use as a media player and that has similar amount of memory free at boot up, but doesn't have the same issues with running multiple apps.

And, a minor quibble - when selecting an image for the background, it screws up based on what you select (ie I pick one area and I'm shown a different area).

Anyhow, going to stick with SlimKat for a week and see how it goes.

This ROM does not allow me to receive calls if the screen is off. If the screen is on, it seems to work most of the time. Hrmm... After another reboot it seems better, but that's disconcerting.

Voicemail notification is sticky / doesn't clear. No clear notifications operation available.

Candy crush won't sync with Facebook. Guess that'll help me stop playing that game. :) Looks like this may be a function of Facebook and not the game. Pocket Mine does the same thing.

Gotta say this one felt much snappier than CM11. But, I think I have to go back to sleipnir. Neither waze nor Google Maps runs reliably. Waze just exits. Google Maps - had to download search (worked) and some text to speech thing (failed with some Pico error "unfortunately Pico TTS has stopped" while trying to copy to SD card).

So, do we still have fast charge enabled in the kernel for this ROM? I see the file in sys, but there's no built in option in this ROM for it that I can tell, and manually editing the file/using an app to do it doesn't seem to modify anything as the phone still recognizes as being charged by USB? Anybody have any thoughts?

FIX FOR MAPS FLICKERING

I haven't tested this extensively, so I'm not positive about the long-term effectiveness, or if it's effective in every ROM, but if you go into Dev Options in the settings menu, select to disable HW overlay and force GPU rendering, then the maps flickering goes away (at least to the extent I've seen). Also seems to produce more snappy response times in most apps.

It does work on the elite BUT, the method doesn't work so well with KitKat based roms, also porting a rom from a device such as the S3 to the Elite will he a headache, I have done it.

Turning those on makes the phone work much much harder than it needs to for very little benefit. I would recommend unchecking them to get real performance, and just use a better maps version.
