Help S5 Battery Gripe

Just when I thought mine was getting a little better I took my S5 off charge for 4 hours and 47 minutes in my pocket when I checked phone it was warm and only 26% battery left. How can it drain its battery that fast doing nothing? I only use wifi, no cell data, I thought that was even easier on battery.

Post your battery stats. What's using all the juice?

A week with this phone and I've found the battery to be outstanding. My wife also got a gs5, typically her gs3 would be dead at the end of the day sitting in her desk at work on a daily basis, her gs5 sits ar about 70-80 percent battery remaining on a typical day. I'd say they've got the radio dialed in.

I had an initial panic, but after a couple of days, I am no longer concerned. I use Cover and NovaLauncher, so I have turned off the TouchWiz functions and locked out as many Samsung apps as possible. That definitely had an impact. And then it seemed to improve over multiple charge/discharge cycles.

BatteryDoctor is currently showing 78% charge with 21h28m left with wifi and GPS running. I turned them off and it shows 27h08m. I took it off the charger about five hours ago and have been using it steadily. If I switched to Ultra Power Savings, it is showing standby time of 9.7 days. I haven't tried the other. power saving mode that looks like it probably just underclocks the CPU. If you are having problems, try that. The phone is blazing fast, so slight underclocking would probably have little noticeable impact.

Would you mind installing GSAM and seeing if you have the big kernel usage I do please? Only if you don't mind. It is a free app. Thanks a lot

I just installed GSAM and I do not find it useful at all.

Battery Doctor blows it doors off, can be programmed to kill off background apps when your screen goes to sleep and they aren't needed anymore.

Also, I went into the Samsung setup and told it to exit all apps as soon as I exit them.

I am getting 24 hours of use out of mine, unless I use it very heavy during the day.

My battery seems fine. 44% and ive had it off the charger for 17hrs 52 mins with normal use. my only gripe is that its saying facebook is the main power drain att 26%. second is android system. Ive monitored my battery usage which has been great! But this is the first time ive seen facebook as the main battery drain. Is something wrong with it?

I unplugged my phone from the charger early Friday morning and ran the battery completely down. It just shut off now.

Friday: medium to light use - phone calls, texting, browsing, and some GPS navigation.
Saturday: light use - phone calls and texting.
Sunday: medium use - phone calls, texting, browsing, and some GPS navigation.
Monday: light use - phone calls and texting.

I did not use the phone a lot, but I never would have gotten this much time out of my S4.

I am in the process of moving and have been using the GPS navigation (Scout) all day some days, making calls, web browsing, and texting. On these days of HEAVY usage I have been left with anywhere between 13-23% at the end of a long day.

I did the same thing as you, except on Friday. My s5 lasted 7 hours doing the same exact thing. Listening to some music, looking up some places in Google maps, texting. I wanted to replace it but an emergency came up and i had to go out of town, so too late for that. So far today I'm at 56% after 1 hours and 50 minutes of screen on time.

I do not know if this helps or not but I -

- usually turn the wifi when I leave the house. If I go somewhere that I know has a network I will turn it back on.

- shut the blue notification light off

- keep the screen brightness low most of the time. I only turn it on auto if I am outside and am having trouble viewing the screen.

- keep the location off unless using the GPS

Hi All.

Hoping for some help. My wife's new S5 is suffering from a pretty horrendous battery life.

As you can see from the first graph, the phone lost about 50% in under 4 hours. This was while it was mainly sat on the table doing nothing.

As you can see below, during that time three quarters of the battery usage was from Apps. I've not installed anything on the phone that I don't use on my S4, which has a much better battery life.

The two biggest culprits are System and GSam!

My battery life was shockingly GREAT - until last night.
I installed a couple of GPS Apps, and it's been crap ever since.
I figure it's one of those deals where it is tracking me everywhere I go, so I uninstalled both Apps this AM. Earlier today I was not even using it and it went from 15% life to 0% and died within 30 minutes.
So that is when i simply uninstalled both apps, it is charging now, I will see how it goes, but prior to this I would be at 100% and it would take two days to get to 60% or so, last night at midnight i was at 94% - seldom used it - and it died at zero percent battery 11 hours later.

Right now it sez this:

Android OS 34%
Android System 22%
Google Services 9%
com.android.systemui 4%

screen is 3%

I don't know what else specifically to look at, I think 'auto-update' is off for the apps i have.

Ideas?

Definitely agree with those saying to complete the charge cycle a few times. The first day or so I was draining it rather quickly and thought this is worse than the iPhone, even though the stats show it should be better. Now that I've charged it a few times I do not have to charge it at work anymore, I can go from 100% in the morning and use the internet, play a few games, etc and still have 30-40% at bedtime. I always charge it each night though, never let it get too drained.

I'm picking up my S5 this afternoon. I'll post my battery results after the weekend. I use my phone A LOT for Data and texting. My screen is on quite a bit so I'm hoping I get one of the "Good" batteries..

Has anyone bought an extra battery to carry with them just in case? I glanced through a post in this thread that said you needed to update the OS for a replacement battery? Do we really need to wait for that?
