1 week old M8 screen already has a scratch?

So I've had my share of phones and honestly I'm not to hard on them at all, always have em wrapped in a TPU case and their always kept in an empty pocket.

Anyway 1 week in on my very pampered HTC ONE M8 and just noticed a hairline scratch on the screen. No drops, no change or keys hitting the screen, and yet my Gorilla glass 3 M8 screen has gotten a scratch.

This is troubling to me because I've had my iPhone 5S since launch, and it's my daily driver and sees a lot of action in a day and hasn't a blemish anywhere, my nexus 5 which has also seen a ton of use since its launch last year is in pristine condition as well.

This isn't comforting to me and makes me loath at the fact that this may be a delicate screen that may need a screen protector, which I absolutly hate!

Anyone seeing any scratches on their new M8's?

yikes! i would cry :-( :-D don't think my old s3 had a scratch anywhere on it after over a year

Yea its not a giant scratch, but yes it's still there...

I haven't seen a scratch on any of my phone screens in quite a long time...that includes recently like the N4, GS4, M7, iPhone 5, N5, iPhone 5S...not a blemish on any of them.

I have never used screen protectors on any of my phones and usually had flip covers to protect them, including the screen. With the m8 however I did not want a flip screen so bought a spigen clear capsule case and also one of their oleophobic screen covers. Have to say both are excellent with great protection. Might be worth trying the screen protector as I think you may find it covers up the scratch so you don't notice it. It is invisible when on. Good luck

Like stated before, it's most likely sand. It's using the same gorilla glass 3 from most other flag ship androids. Highly doubt that the device is particularly susceptible to scratches over others and it wouldn't be fair to accuse it of being so from a conlincidental scratch. I use a screen protector so that won't happen. No phone is completely scratch resistant.

I don't mean to flame but every HTC device we've owned scratched quite easily. It was always a pet peeve.

I purchased a tempered glass screen protector for my M8.

My Original HTC, EVO, Incredible & Rezound all ended up with small hairline scratches.

Now should I have been using a screen protector...maybe? But I hate screen protectors which is why I never use them. None of my iphones have ever ended up with a scratch, same for my Galaxy S phones, and both LG nexus phones.

But some how most of my HTC phones have ended up with a scratch here and there. So its either crappy screens or bad luck ...either way, is what it is!

It is bad luck I think. I have owned every HTC device available on Sprint since the Mogul (except for the Touch, I had the Touch Pro) and I have never put on a screen protector nor have I ever gotten a scratch on the screens. I don't think I am any more careful than anyone else so it could likely just be good luck. I always get a case with a lip so I can put my phone face down and I always put it in a pocket by itself (no keys, no change, no nothing). Perhaps I got all the good luck. That really sucks about your scratch. It would drive me nuts.

My buddy actually got an M8 out of the box with a small scratch near the lower speaker grill from the factory which he immediately exchanged. He then immediately put on Ghost Glass which looks and feels just like glass, but it does put an unfortunate raised lip on the screen. That raised portion is curved so it is comfortable to slide your finger over.

I disagree. I had the Droid Incredible, the Dinc 2 and the Rezound and they all scratched easily. I didn't wait for a scratch on my M8. Bought a tempered glass screen protector right away.

Gorilla Glass is Gorilla Glass. extremely scratch and break resistant but anything can scratch or break given the right variables. Your experience is just different than mine. I have never had a scratch on an HTC device (I have had 9 total models) so your mileage will vary.

Yea its just luck of the draw to some extant. I guess it could have happened anywhere or from a tiny piece of pocket sand... I to reserve a pocket specifically for my device of choice that is free from keys or anything else, so a grain of pocket sand is most likely the culprit, oh well!

It really stinks that anything scratched it. I know how on the fence you were about getting it anyway. I feel your pain My Friend.
