Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Hi folks!

I tell you: my heart breaks for my friends (including those I haven't met yet) in Mississippi. All along I-20, from Vicksburg to Jackson to Meridian... what a horrific gauntlet of destruction they're run! Here in Manchester, Tennessee, we had bad storms and a brief warning (thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado): but nothing like what our folks to the south of us got.

And the folks in Arkansas and Alabama, Oklahoma and Louisiana fared no better. Disaster as far as the eye can see.

:(

I think it's time to donate some of my saved up Note 4 / tech money to the Salvation Army and Convoy of Hope. That Note 4 will still be waiting for me when I get saved back up... these folks need help NOW. And I would encourage all of my peeps here to join me in digging deep to help these people rebuild their lives.

Hello! Been a while since I've checked in. Hope everyone here is doing ok and made it through the storms this week.

Stig, didn't realize the wedding was so close! Congrats! Halon is right, the day of the wedding absolutely FLIES by. Enjoy it all and soak up as much of it as you can. Don't beat yourself up for not getting to say hello to everyone there, you simply can't get to them all.

I ordered a Note 10.1 2014 edition and received it Wednesday. After messing with it for a little bit I noticed a big white cluster of pixels any time brightness was increased more than minimum. Guess I'll have to deal with Samsung's Warranty claim process now as I got it on Groupon and the deal is now over.

Have fun Stigy! And as a voice of experience: you and your Daring Bride stay as sober as possible on your wedding night / honeymoon.

My Mom got us both plastered on our wedding night. The Darling Bride spent the whole night in the hotel bathroom puking, while I passed out on the bed. WOW, what a wedding night, huh? Yeah, well, the next day wasn't too hot either as I recall.

DO I recall?

Anyway, have fun! And to everyone else:

HAPPY WEEKEND!

The Darling Bride is happy. This is the week her new ride shows up, freshly built from Detroit. A 2014 Chrysler 300C with about every bell & whistle you can imagine on it:

Meanwhile, my 1997 Conversion van (the keys to which someone will have to pry from my cold, dead fingers) will get a decent paint job and detail to make her look fresh and updated. Dang, we clean up nice, huh?

:D

And our yo-yo son (whom we should have named Duncan) seems to be returning to us yet AGAIN. I have set down the rules and he doesn't like them:

  • This is NOT his home anymore. It's OUR home. He is a temporary guest here, expected to find HIS home and go there... rapidly. We're empty nesters now and we are enjoying it.
  • He will CLEAN.
  • He will go to Church with us.
  • He will be actively looking for enough work to sustain independence.
  • He will not get any more ongoing financial support from us. We're a safety net, not a hammock.

He's not very thrilled, as you might surmise. GOOD. We don't want him living in the lap of luxury around here. It's OUR luxury. He'll be on a strict time limit to get here and get out again. We're not parents anymore... we're mentors now that both kids are grown and gone. And we kinda like it!

:)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

How old is he? And I guess western and Asian parents are really different, haha.

He'll be 22 this month. That magical age when you really need to hurry up and save the planet because your parents are idiots and you know everything :p

Present company excepted, of course. Android Forums readers are all level-headed and logical at birth :)

And yes, there is a HUGE difference in culture!

EDIT: Well, the Darling Bride's car is BUILT. Bad news: it's still at the railhead in Ontario, Canada. Apparently the engine and drive train are built in Detroit, with final vehicle assembly in Ontario. So it could be ANOTHER week before the train gets it to Nashville, and a few more days to get it trucked the whopping 40 miles to the dealership for prep. Who knows? Maybe she'll get it for Mothers Day. I hope so. Along with a nice, 1-hour massage and (of course) flowers and a card from the Hubby.

Wow, still so young! Here, if it's possinle, we usually stay with our parents until we get married. Also faster to save money that way and the environment ia not conducive to strike out on your own. Entry level salaries are not enough to live on.

In fact, I have a cousin who was born and raised in America, though his parents are both from here. He recently got into an argument with his dad over moving out. The dad wants him to stay at home, but peer pressure prevailed. American culture is very strong.

And very tragic in many respects. Believe me.

EDIT: Kids. ADULT kids. Our Yo-yo son is bouncing back here (AGAIN), this time on a dog from Texas. He'll be here Saturday.

We have already advised him not to get too comfortable. We're really enjoying this whole "Empty Nest Syndrome" thing!

Meanwhile, Note 4 rumors abound. I think the Note 4 and a Moto 360 smartwatch will just about do me :)
