Hello I'm kinda new to all this but I have a HTC one xl that is stuck in a boot loop. It is unlocked or I guess you would call it rooted which I didn't even know it was till it started the boot loop lol. I have tried a couple simple fixes I found on youtube but no luck. I don't know if this helps but it has venom installed. Please any help I would be great full.

I have been reading over some of the forum threads and found this

http://androidforums.com/internatio...gs-root/543855-htc-one-x-bootloader-loop.html

I tried doing what you suggested in that thread but I get an error not recognized on the command prompt. I'm guessing it's because my phone's software is not installed on the PC but, the problem is when ever it try's to install my phone wont stay on long enough and gives me the message software could not be found. Any ideas on what to do next?

here are some directions to get the fastboot getvar all :

first download and install these drivers: revolutionary drivers (mirror)

then,download this small file:
mini-adb.zip

-unzip it,and place the unzipped folder onto the root of your C drive(not inside a folder)

-open a cmd window(with win 7,click start bubble, type "command" or "cmd" in hte search box)

-now change to your mini-adb directory(assuming you didnt chagne the name). type in the black cmd window that opened on your PC:
cd c:\mini-adb

-pull the battery in your phone for a few seconds. hold volume down, then power. hold them both until you see the white/colored writing hboot screen

-select "fastboot" from the hboot menu with the vol rocker/power button

-in your cmd window type:
fastboot devices

it should output your phones serial number. if so youre good to go. if not, youre apparently having a driver issue. i usually recomend these drivers from Revolutionary: modified htc drivers download and install the drivers(you should just have to run that file). afterwards, unplug your phone, plug it back in. make sure its in fastboot. as soon as you get a result from "fastboot devices" your ready to procede to the next step.

-in your cmd window, type(or copy/paste,is much easier):
fastboot getvar all

-copy the info that outputs here. right click in your cmd window, click mark, highlight it all in white. hit enter. paste the info here. it will help us know which ruu for you to run. :)

I think you'd do a lot better by doing some reading over at XDA, there are far more resources there and they're much more comprehensive. You'll find our device forum here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538

I manage an Evita FAQ thread here:

Plus my How-To Guide For Beginners thread here:

And a help thread here:

Don't get me wrong, XDA is a great source for knowledge, but we're no slouches here when it comes to device support.

We have some pretty knowledgeable HTC guys around here including Scotty85 (The HTC Guru). I'd put my money on him every time. ;)

OP, stick with Scotty, and whatever direction he provides, and you'll be in the best shape you can be in.

I would like to butjust i needhave a response to what i have to do next. I'm currently without a phone so i kinda need that htc fixed in a hurry.

This sounds like an issue you might be able to fix simply by flashing a new rom, or reflashing the one you already have installed.

You need to transfer a rom.zip to the internal storage/sd card
(if there isn't one there already)

From recovery wipe system, data, cache & dalvik.

Then choose install and select the rom.zip from the location it's saved.

I don't have the device so I can't recommend a rom to choose but there is probably many to choose from at the link timmaaa provided.

Hopefully someone who knows the device will chime in with a specific rom that will work for you.

Edit: unfortunately I didn't see an ruu that looks compatible with your current setup. Hopefully a fresh rom flash will do the trick.

I'm not saying you don't have some knowledgeable guys here, but all the ROMs/kernels are at XDA, there are far more resources at XDA, the guides are better, the different devices are actually separated correctly (having the One X and the One XL in the same section here is ludicrous, and dangerous). Anyone who knows anything about modifying their Android device knows there's only one true place to go. I would have had this problem resolved in a matter of hours.

That's kind of a silly statement. So are you saying that you know nothing about modding devices, or is there a reason to be here?

You're pretty new on this site, so I don't understand why you are here if we have nothing worthwhile and you're just going to direct traffic to another site.

Also, as for your last comment, if you can resolve this issue in a matter of hours, why not do it? Why waste the OP's time talking about how superior another website is when you could just solve his issue?

I came here out of boredom, and to see what it was like. As for my last statement, I am helping the OP, but at XDA, where I can actually direct him to resources that can hell him to assist himself.

you have 2 choices back to a working phone:
1)flash a rom. if youre running a version of twrp that will let you transfer files to internal storage, you can transfer the rom to the phone that way. you can also try pushing the rom to storage with adb. otherwise you might need to use the "sideload" feature,or try installing the rom from a usb OTB adapter with a flash drive or sd card plugged in.

in a nutshell:

*place a rom into the miniadb folder. then:

push to internal storage
-open cmd window, and put the phone into recovery
-enter
adb devices

if you get serial number recovery back, then try:
adb push romname.zip /data/media/0

if that is successful, use recovery menu options to reboot recovery, then attempt to install the rom normally,it should now be on internal storage. make sure to wipe data/factory reset

sideload
-place phone in recovery, open cmd window
-start sideload on phone
-enter in cmd window:
adb sideload romname.zip

2)run an ruu
download from here: AndroidRUU | The #1 source for Android RUU files

place phone in fastboot, change to adb directory(basically use getvar all directions) and then relockj the bootloader with this command:
fastboot oem lock

then run the .exe utility on your pc.

if it fails for some reason, dont panic, then can be finicky. extract rom.zip in this manner:
the .exe utilities can be finicky,so if you have trouble getting it to run, you can extract "rom.zip" in the following manner:
-start the utility
-check the "i understand" box to move on to the next screen
-hide the utility temporarily out of site
-search your C drive for "rom.zip". you will find it in a temporary location(it will be in a different spot each time you run the utility)
-open the folder location, and transfer rom.zip to a safe location on your PC.
-unhide and cancel the utility, youre done with it.
-rom.zip can be renamed to PxxxIMG and flashed in hboot, from a FAT32 sd c

flash rom.zip in this manner:
if youre working with a booted, operational phone, you can flsh the file in the following manner:

-open a cmd window

-change to adb/fastboot directory
cd c:\foldername
(cd c:\mini-adb if youve used any of my guides :))

-place the zip file you want to flash into adb/fastboot directory

-enable usb debug, disable fastboot, plug in phone

-check for connectivity
adb devices (should return serial number)

-boot to fastboot
adb reboot bootloader

-check for connectivity again
fastboot devices

-flash the file
fastboot erase cache

fastboto oem rebootRUU (will put you in ruu mode, black screen silver htc letters)

fastboot flash zip zipfilename.zip (will send and flash the file. dont interupt it while the cmd window shows its writinging, and the green status bar is moving on the phone screen)

*sometimes a file will fail with a pre-update error. this is normal, just enter again:
fastboot flash zip zipfilename.zip
and this time it will finish

-when you get "finished" and "OK"
fastboot reboot-bootloader (takes you back to fastboot)

-reboot back to the OS
fastbooot reboot

you can use this if you dont have an operational phone as well. you just need to manually put the phone in fastboot(select from hboot menu) then skip the "adb" commands and start with fastboot devices

sorry for the late response, have had a lot on my plate the last few days

holler if you have questions :)
