Help Data Connectivity Issues (Sprint)

I just got the HTC One M8 last Sunday 4/27. It seems like sometimes when the phone switches between 3g and 4G the antenna, while showing connectivity, will not have any data. I will not get text messages either. I have to restart the phone to get it to reconnect properly.

Anyone else having an issue with this? I'm still within my 14 days so I think I'm going to get it replaced.

What area are you in? Sprint is adding LTE800 (Band 26) to all of their existing LTE1900 (Band 25) towers but in certain markets the installing vendor forgot to install the necessary CSFB patch. What this software does, to the best of my understanding, is it notifies your phone that it has an incoming call and switches you over from LTE to 1x to receive it. The patch also allows you to receive text messages over LTE. The Sprint version of the M8 cannot be connected to LTE and 1x at the same time due to antenna arrangement, hence no SVlte.

The next time you notice this happening go into your dialer and punch in ##DEBUG# (##33284#) and then in the screen that opens up go to LTE Engineering and see if you are connected to Band 26 or Band 25 (maybe even Band 41 but I don't think they are having the same issues with that band). If you wait long enough your phone should kick back to 3g once it realizes the tower does not have the necessary software. Sprint's current workaround for the issue while they fix it is to put the phone in CDMA only mode...... which makes me mad. That is not a workaround in my book; it is a compromise.

I'm in the Huntsville, AL area.

Can I try that Debug even if it is not happening?

OK, I'm having the issue now, I go into LTE Engineering at the Band line is blank. So is Serving cell, UL channel, and DL channel

hmm ok what icon is up top? LTE, 3G or nothing? I know this is the first thing that Sprint asks but have you updated your PRL and Profile?

3G is on top. I rebooted and received my missing text messages. However, going back into the LTE Engineering, it is still blank.

I did update the PRL and profile last week, but I guess I could always do it again.

Sorry that is my fault.... your band and signal info will only appear when you are connected to LTE or trying to connect to LTE. Hmm if it is happening with 3g maybe something else is going on. That is a little different than the problems I was having receiving texts and phone calls while on LTE. Is there any pattern to when it happens? Same place/area? or is it just everywhere you go?

A lot of times it happens in the same area in my office. However, it is on the line of 3g and 4g. In my office I get 3g. Walk to the other end of the building I have 4g.

But it has happened in other areas. It's like it can't choose between the two and gets stuck.

Thanks for your help by the way.

You're welcome, I wish I were more help. After looking around it doesn't look like you have any Band 26 towers in Huntsville so that isn't the culprit. I would bring it into a Sprint store with a repair center and have them test it out. I stick with the corporate stores personally. You can tell they aren't corporate when they are listed as Sprint Store by (Insert 3rd Party name here).

Since I'm in my 14 day window, I think I'll just return it and get a new one and hopefully that will resolve the issue. Thanks!

Good call. Let us know how it goes.

Well, they (Best Buy) wouldn't let me exchange it yet and to call Sprint because they think it might be a service issue. I haven't called Sprint yet.

I didn't argue too much, just because I didn't have time while at lunch. However, I haven't had the issue at all today and my signal has been stable. So maybe it was a Sprint issue in this area.

If not, I'll take it back by Sunday and force them to give me a new one based on their 14 day exchange policy.
