Slow email in KitKat

I upgraded to KitKat - then changed my email settings to showing more emails per page. Now I've got over 4900 e-mail listed and my email is now very slow to open - both the email account itself and each individual email. I figure I've got too many e-mails per page but can't remember how I changed it and haven't been able to get back to only a limited number of emails per page.
How do I change the number of emails it shows?

I went into my app folder and the only yellow & white icon I could find says "Messinging". I took a look through that app and see it's only for "text" messinging, which I don't do. I did follow all the links in this app and none of them lead to email - that I could determine.

Our AOL was synced from our last phone by the salesman at the store.

I can only find one icon that says "email" and it's red and white and I've followed all the links in it numerous times and gotten nowhere.

Did you download an app for Email to use or fid you just use the Email app already on the phone? Easiest fix probably is to just clear the email app and input your details again. Go to Applications under Settings, go under the all tab, then look for the email app. Hit clear data.

Samsung default email app is a white envelope with a red @ symbol.

OK - I've been in the default Samsung email app all along. I haven't downloaded any other email app and what I've been using is an icon of a white envelope with a red @ symbol inside it.
I explored it and under settings and not only can't see any tabs but can't find anything that says "clear data".
However once I find "clear data", I don't want to erase ALL my emails, but just the ones I've already read. Will "clear data" erase all my emails - even my unread incoming emails?

That isn't located under the settings of the app, you have to go into the phone's settings, then look under apps, and go from there. Once you find the listing for email (or whatever Samsung called it), you can clear the data from there. Bear in mind that doing so is like "resetting" the app back to how you found it when you first opened it up.

7Yup, Ryan is right. Here's step by step, assuming Samsung didn't change the settings menu again

1. Pull down notification, click the gear icon (or go to apps, then look for the settings icon),

2. Go to the 'More' tab

3. Click Application Manager

4. Swipe right to left until you reach the 'all' column

5. Look for Email

6. Click 'clear data'

It will only clear the email app. You will have to open it again and log in. You can set how many emails will be downloaded.

Also, your emails on the AOL server won't be touched. I know this because I've done this several times before. Lol.

Well, I was able to "clear data" but it didn't give me the option to set how many emails it loaded. So I went into it and did the "clear data" thing again thinking I'd somehow missed seeing where I could set how many emails it downloaded but still couldn't find where it allowed me to do that.
However, now my email is much faster and I'm only showing a little over 300 emails loaded rather than the 4900 like before.
We'll see how many it loads in the coming days as I do get a lot of email.
Thanks for all your help -- all of you!
