How can I save voice mails, other than writing them down word-for-word?

I use ACR Free call record, (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nll.acr) it records both ways of a phone call and does it automatically. It saves to a location that you want (ie sd card) all you have to do is listen to your voice mail and your phone will record the entire thing and save the recording.

its also good when it comes to phoning companies and they they back track on what they said or say they "couldnt find or they didt record that call" and insist they didn't say that in the first place, you can then send them the recording and watch them try to squirm out of it.

It is my understanding that recording conversations is not illegal as long as one of the parties knows it is happening. Therefore, you are allowed to record your own conversations with other people.

Not true. It's state dependent. Some require both parties, some do not. Again, it applies to live conversation because the wiretap laws are ancient and considers "in flight" data differently than "data at rest"

So conversation and VM are treated differently, and require different degrees of judicial oversight. Another case of laws that are hopelessly out of date! :)
