I got fed up with the notification to install that sat for days in the notification area, so I went ahead and installed a couple of days ago. Okay, the first install went alright, nothing bad happened. Then, a _second_ notification came up a day later when I went on WiFi to install yet _another_ update. I didn't wait this time and updated but this seoncd one changed my icons, which I _hate_, but also messed up the stock clock app.
The 1st update I think was to Jelly Bean (okay, that didn't go so bad) but the second was to KitKat version something or other and I now have different behaviours in my phone, as I mentioned. The stock clock app was perfect as it was. Now I am hitting the delete alarm icon because that's where the expand/collapse arrow was and now, horror or horrors, I have that stupid circular thing to change the times! I really hate that; it's purdy but I don't want purdy! I want efficiency. _And_ one of the widges now freezes up quite a bit when it did not do so before!
Is there any way to stop the darned updates?!! I do not need to be dictated to by Google! I didn't know when I got into this phone that that would be the case; it's bad enough that I didn't know 2 weeks ago that the OS was "open source" (in quotes, because it doesn't act like open source being Google's), but you sure have to treat it like open source because unlike the BlackBerry, I've had to spend hours and hours to find, install and try and discard apps just to get what I consider basic functionality, something my BB had right out of the box!
Up until last night, I was happy with the way things were going. I have 2 days left on trying this phone out before I cannot return it to my new cell phone provider and I'm not happy with how things were changed without a by-your-leave, as that expression goes!
Is there any way to stop this? Yes, I've read so many forum posts saying no, but some time has passed and maybe people have had time to figure this out properly. I do _not_ want any more automatic updates to happen. Who knows what will be screwed up next.
I may not have a data plan but I have access to the "free" WiFi here at work and will occasionally go online even after I have my phone finetuned to what I need and I don't want to be afraid of having to deal with unwanted updates.
In the meantime, now I have to hunt around for a clock app because I can't live with the clock the way it was changed <sigh>.
Thanks for any constructive help to fix this! Really appreciate it.
