Help Low on Space, "System data" huge!

You don't have to root your phones to fix this problem. Just dial *#9900# on the phone and then select from menu - delete dumpstate/logcat. I tested this solution on my SGS2 and it works. :)

Thanks for helping but I tried dialing and for some reason they told me they aren't working anymore. Is it because of the type of phone I have or does it still work for anyone else? is there another way of deleting all the unnecessary space.

*#9900# and then - delete dumpstate/logcat. WOW, worked great on AT&T SGS2. System data went from ~990MB to 116. Like the man said, not root, no wipe needed. OBTW this was after deleting browser caches, most all email, and downloads.

Samsung Galaxy S2 T-mobile running HellKat

Same problem, "insuffient space..." System Data was gobbling a huge amount of space. I couldn't get the #9900# to work (Connection problem or invalid mmi code) but I stumbled around looking for huge log files and saw that /data/lost+found was 1.2Gb, so I deleted it with Yaffs Explorer with root privs. Viola! The 'system data' is now a reasonable size and doesn't seem to be growing.

*#9900# and then - delete dumpstate/logcat. I couldn't get this to work on my phone. I have a LG Tribute LGLS660. I show 2.3 GB being used by System Data. I have 1 photo on my phone, and 4 Apps that I've installed. The rest are all the crappy Google Apps I can't remove. I have 416 MB of space left. I can't even update an app, let alone add a new one.

you're supposed to put in that 999 code and phone like pull up your telephone and dial it in there and then pull the menu down and it should be in there for it to dump the cash or some s***tried it not working but i'ma google it and see if I can come up with something and then I'll give a better explanation on here if I come up with it if anybody else has a little help explaining this

Hi! I'm a relative Android newbee, had MyTouch 4g for two months.

I'm having problems with the "Low on space" warning. I have moved all my apps to the SD card which helped for a while but the warning came back. I then started clearing out data, uninstalling apps but days later it still came back. I read about the "diskusage" app and have it installed after clearing more data. What it is telling me is of my total data (1162 MiB) 115 MiB is free, 63.3 MiB is Applications and 983 MiB is "System data". There is no way for me to tell what this system data is made up of. I installed diskusage on my wife's MyTouch 4G and found her system data was only a little over 100 MiB.

How can I clean up the system data so I get my phone back to normal?

Thanks!
OK my experience:
I solved it like this
I have huawei honor 6 rooted and I use CWM recovery
Backed up phone with CWM on SD1 external just in case
Then
open these folders with root explorer : / Data / clockworkmod / backup /
there was another back up done before but not on the ext card but on the internal memory taking a lot of space
Erased it and now lots of storage on phone

The CWM back ups have to stay on the external card !

I have an LG G4 with the same issue. When I call *#9900# The message says: "Connection problem or Invalid MMI code." My connection is fine. Why is this not working for me?
