Root [Boost Mobile] KitKat ND8 update

you said you put the kitkat update on boost mobile put how?....I tried odin and try using recovery and have fail...then again the is only a zip and not a tar.mds....

You have to use the tar images for the kk update and then for philz recovery. Although, not to be rude, if you aren't sure how to use odin you might want to research before trying. Unless, of course, you'd like an expensive doorstop.

Update: Sorry guys life has gotten in the way this am but I will be flashing a tw rom this afternoon to prove it works. I can't promise data works, regarding modems, I just said you could flash without a brick. lol. ;)

That's another question I have because ROMs like Wicked Sensations call for MK5 or its Sprint equivalent.

I'll answer this in here instead of PM @wetbiker7, for the benefit of all. If you flash the 4.4.2 ND8 Sprint tar, you will definitely flash the Knox bootloader that goes with it, as well as the ND8 modem. The minute you flash Philz, you'll trip it, but we all know that. Here's what I've tested, and you all can decide if you want to take the plunge. I have successfully flashed an MK5 backup I had on external storage and it works fine. So that answers your first question, yes, you CAN flash JB roms just fine. However, when I tried to flash the MK5 modem, it broke radio, meaning no phone, data, nothing. So as of right now, and I'm in the process of trying to crack it, there is NO way to downgrade modems once you flash the tar. The 4.4.2 bootloader does not allow you to flash a downgraded bootloader OR modem at this time. Now, the ND8 modem worked fine on the MK5 rom I flashed. It would be the same as using and MK5 modem on 4.1.2, it actually works better, but going down, won't work. Does that make sense? I probably confused you all more, but just know that:
A) you can downgrade roms while on KK bootloader and they'll work
B) you CANNOT downgrade modems while on KK bootloader. You're stuck with ND8 modem until we can figure out how to crack it. Good luck!~

Thanks for the answer bro. That means the AOSP ROMs should work too. Nice to know that even though certain ROMs say they are modem specific, it actually doesn't affect the radio or data. The only drawbacks besides Knox are inability to downgrade the bootloader and the inability to use older modems.

No confusion at all bro. You explained it well.

I'm F*$#ING loving the newest tw. Snappier and better response. Better battery for me so far. The lockscreen actually changes for each song on pandora (it's the little things) lol. I won't be flashing back for the foreseeable future although I might try kk tw roms.

Thanks for JD for explaining!

Just wondering, if you're running ND8 FW/ROM then flash back to any of the stock 4.3 ROMs, would this same ROM run that much better than on MK3/MK5 FW?

I don't much, guessing here, but I'm assuming not really. The 4.3 roms would still be running on the 4.3 file system not on the 4.4 system. Feel free to give it a try though. ;)

Haha, I'll let steelyus1 take care of his business first. :D

Wouldn't 4.3 ROM have 4.4 system since it's running in ND8 FW? Now I'm really confused! :thinking::thinking::thinking:

If you flash the tar you'll have the nd8 modem and bootloader for good. But the rom you flash will still run whatever version of Android you're flashing.

Ok. Flashed ND8 .tar and not too impressed with the same looking TW, but does seem smoother. It did root easily. Also did flash Wicked Sensations 4.3 and LS official 3.0 to confirm working with new baseband and mdm. (obviously not long term tests)

Back on AOKP again. Running fine so far on ND8 baseband.

Aside from a few graphic changes it does look the same. I'm glad the battery and data arrows are white. It was the only reason I was running Barebones. I prefer the stock look overall when coupled with transparent widget for weather. Plus by comparison the picture quality is horrendous on AOSP.

I'm the same way. I like the stock look minus the bloatware of course. Have you tried StaticPower ROM? It's s stock ROM with touch of S4 and Note 2 & 3 themed.

I usually use Nova launcher, whether on TW or AOSP. Just the look I personally like. But overall, it's not a bad stock ROM. Smoother, can make it lighter with root.

Edit: Wanam does make it more bearable.

Question for those of you running the new TouchWiz.

Does it still have the PRL update feature? Not the one in settings. I'm talking about the one in the hidden menu that allows you to change it by putting a different PRL on the root of the phone and naming it TEST.prl? Thanks

Over on xda there is a flashable zip enabling it in tw
