LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

M8 Prime is going to be a behemoth. Way too big for me. Even the M8 has awkwardly large dimensions. I'll pass....

I felt the same way for M8 form factor. I wanted to give HTC try this year but it's too awkward to carry around, slippery and rear camera quality was mediocre. Unless they drastically change bezel design, M8 prime with 5.5" screen will be even worse for me.

As for G3 battery I think there is good chance US versions will have a bit bigger capacity than 3000mAh but in fixed non-removable form. Maybe 3200 or 3300mAh. The same thing happened last with G2 battery as Korean versions had 2600mAh removable but US versions got 3000mAh fixed.

Wow !

This is starting to remind me of the droid incredible pre thread. Haven't seen this much excitement in a long time.
Count me in on this one ! Bezel less and Qhd, that alone has me almost all in. 805 soc would secure the deal !!!

Steven58, are you the same steven from the incredible days ? If so, nice to see you again Sir ! :)

Based on some links floating around on Google, it's looking like this phone could be a AT&T exclusive.

I really hope I'm wrong as the specs clearly have it supporting T-Mobile's LTE network, but if LG took this road it would be a huge letdown to a lot of people.

There's an absolute ZERO chance of that. LG has already said that they want this to be the most ubiquitous phone available. This is going to launch everywhere, on every carrier.

EDIT: I think what you saw was the LG G3 mini.

But it seems LG is already working on the mini version of the LG G3 as well, and apparently it will be an AT&T exclusive.

Hi Dan, yes, it's moi! We actually had an arguably hotter thread for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which some of us, here, were also involved in. It is on record as being the hottest thread in Android Forum's history.

I see what you mean, though. There is a lot of excitement over this phone and this thread reflects that.

805 v 801: Hey, I'm the consumer. It's my money and I can wait for specs that I like. My next phone won't be compromising anything. My requirements are:

1) State of the art and future-proof tech (1.5 to 2 years future proof-ish)
2) Root-ability
3) Wow factor
4) It has to be something I can live with and be comfortable with.

I want a great camera with image stabilization. Having said that, I rarely use the camera! I want great video. Having said that, I never use video. Great call quality would be nice, considering it is a phone. NFC and IRIS or Google payments would be nice. Having said that, I never use them. NEED FOR SPEED!

I want to be able to install and run a lot of programs at once. My gnex is lagging so I froze a bunch. That's non-negotiable.

It seems that I don't really use all of the features, as I look over my list. Maybe my next phone will be a feature phone. :p

Let's see here.

NFC in G2 and F6 made me $560 this year.

I have a dedicated Panasonic x920 for 1080/60p video, and I use it all the time. It has the ability to take stills, but they are not very good compared to the dedicated photo cameras. If my phone can take 1080/60p video and stunning stills, maybe I should sell my x920? that alone would pay for the new G3.

Do I need 805? I am not a gamer, so it doesn't really matter to me.

As of future-proof, there is no such thing. As soon as one makes a purchase, there is something hotter, better, cheaper around the corner.

So I guess I am in. :D

I'm with you. And since I'll be utilizing VZW's Edge to get this phone, I'll be replacing it in a year with whatever is the latest and greatest at that time. So, for me, my "future proof" needs extend exactly one year.

It'll be on all carriers I'm sure and I really doubt there will be SoC differences between the variants.

The only thing that remains to be seen is if they add removable storage to the US variants or only the Korean variant like they did last time. I'm guessing it'll be there for all since the FCC filing indicates removable battery for multiple variants which was also only found on the Korean variant last time.

However, I'm likely to shy away from an 801 if that's the case. Probably wait and see if HTC delivers on an M8 prime. Been awhile since I've owned an HTC and I miss some things about them.

Phandroid had an article yesterday that showed a 360 degree look at the m8 prime. The rumors have it as a bump up in screen resolution and screen size (5.5), but the pic also showed that the black bezels HTC loves (and gave an excuse as hiding "important components") are still there, so the M8 prime will likely in between the HTC One Max and the M8.

Then the lg g3 is your phone regardless of it having 801 or 805, 801 was recently introduced after all.

I think it'd be a huge mistake if LG did that. All the specs that are rumored so far have garnered a lot of attention (e.g. removable 3000mah, microSD, smaller physical form factor than any 5.5 phone on the market w/ ultra thin bezels, wireless charging built in and no additional add-ons necessary) and I think that the only way that they can keep that momentum going on an upward trend is to have all the models the same physically (save for the different carrier radios and software add-ons).

I had made a comparison a couple years back, when the original Optimus G was being hyped in lots of leaks. When it was launched, sales were decent enough and the technology was up to par, that I thought LG might be onto something, similar to when Samsung initially introduced the Galaxy line. The 1st gen Galaxy S did decent, but Samsung still didn't have the profits to vamp up US support. The S2 picked up steam, but the most disappointing part was the variants between carriers. The S3 pulled Samsung away from all other Android manufacturers and the variants between all the carriers were the same (again, save for the carrier radios and software add-ons).

With the Optimus G, the phone got people considering LG and was popular and built up a better reputations from LG's past. The lack of a microSD card on the Sprint variant pushed the Note 2 in front of the Optimus G, for my upgrade of choice (at the time). The G2 was the underdog phone of the year for many people (only difference being people's preference for the Nexus over the G2). The G3 could possibly do for LG what the S3 did for Samsung. Of course, Samsung dumped a whole lot of money into marketing the S3, so I hope LG is prepared to do the same. If they do, then it'll just mean better things for us consumers because the "optimal" choices will continue to increase, due to competition.

I'm still keeping my options open for this phone. I know it will deliver regardless. Still waiting to see what moto does this summer. I want that rumored moto phablet. I wan't that watch too....oh and rumored to be $249.

Really? I had posted a link, from Techradar, in the Moto 360 forum, that was speculating a $349 pricetag for the watch

You could be wrapping the Moto 360 around your wrist this July | News | TechRadar

I have my eye on the Moto 360 also, but I'm giving Lenovo the same 2 year window that I gave Google (when they purchased originally). If Lenovo can turn things around within a year, that'd be a big shock, but I'm not anticipating their being able to get things in the right direction after just having purchased them.

-EDIT-
You were right, ORION! Just saw this article on Phandroid! I'm in, especially at $249.

I'm still having a hard time with the length of this phone. I really wonder if I could stomach caseless just to keep the perception of bulk down a bit...... I'm real used to the size of my G2 and it is a tight fit in the pocket and to operate as it is.

the best thing would be to actually FEEL the phone as to that is way different than such speculations. i remember when i thought nexus and lg g2 was way to big but i came to understand that just numbers on papers doesn't translate to the actually feel of the phone on the hand. best thing is to experience it personally.

Even $349 seems cheap for a watch. I can't imagine buying a plain old watch for less than $500 and wanting to wear it. I almost wish this Moto watch was more expensive and higher end, at least fit and finish wise. $249 seems like it is more for teens.

Which requires patience and forethought. Neither of which are my strong suits. :D

haha i know, but just because of that we have to strengthen it. for now i personally just want to SEE the USA launch with the hard specs confirmation, period. if it comes with 801 and all the goodies like wireless charging, sd, usb 3.0 and all those stuff then i might consider getting it. if not or something else then ill take some time to wait for htc prime or some other devices, if NOT then ill get the LG based silver phone. PERIOD.
