The 2012 late droid line up.. Once bliss cracked the bootloader dhacker and tons of devs had everything on it they could late 2013 it's thriving so well I hardly hear anything about going to other devices..

Would you recommend that to someone who's looking for an upgrade now though?

I guess its up to the person upgrading. How much weight they put on having a flagship with more potential going forward or proven development now and a risk of developers moving on.

My first thought when reading the title was just about any nexus device or current flagship, but the Verizon detail puts a pretty big limitation on things.

No nexus 4 or 5, and locked down bootloaders on other devices.

Yeah....that's why I posed the question. Verizon really makes it difficult and I hear that less and less developers are going to support their devices. So it poses an interesting question for the future.

I know that HTC and LG are still relatively easy to root and rom. But Samsung and Motorola seem to be locking things down pretty tightly. It's such a shame...

I think there's no denying that developers breath continued life into OEM/Carrier forgotten devices (I ran my Droid OG well past it's expiration date). But, there's a point in time where the hardware is just doesn't support the software advances.

I think that any device could last two years...but it's so much more fun to try the newer models...
