Root [Virgin Mobile] New update

I got a notification for it this morning. It's a big one - 84mb. I'm rooted and on the Conquest ROM. Anyone know if it's safe for rooted phones?

You have to be stock with stock recovery or it will fail. You can edit the updater script to remove assert props. And make it flashable with twrp, but you still have to be on stock ROM with stock kernel.

I did it earlier, no real difference so far besides it installing drive on there. Still 4.1. The baseband is now L300VPAND4. Honestly guys I think it's just because sprint released the Galaxy Victory on Freedompop today and this helps it work on their network which is wifi based. Could be wrong but the news does line up with what I posted earlier and the announcement. Also I returned completely stock using kies before doing this

The issue is: no custom ROMs support this baseband yet, and going back might Bork it ( like I borked mine accidentally going from mg5 to mc1 )

I doubt anything will happen either, it wasn't a big deal for me since my phone is currently off and I only had it rooted for link2sd. I'll probably just pick up an LG Volt next month. 4 inches has gotten small to me since using my friends HTC Desire.

Just woke up to the notification. I wish I had gotten it before the weekend so I could have spent some time pulling it apart and looking into it more. Now that Watch_Dogs is out, I'm not sure I will even care to get to it soon (We will see).

Not sure how active the community is in terms of updating the roms to work with this update.

I really wish there was more a change log situation for these updates. So generalized it's hard to know exactly what changed... but since its not an android version update, I don't really see the point right now. "If its not broke..."

There is new kernel source available here (taking forever to download):
SPH-L300_VMU L300VPAND4

Anyone pulled the update zip from their phone yet?

I haven't gotten it yet, but as soon as I do I'll pull it and upload it and link. Hey Jerryscript, nice to see ya bro. Victorious is still pretty popular. I give help with it when I can. My wife and I both have victories so one of us is bound to get the update soon.

Thanks Madbat, good to see you to! I pulled the update zip, uploading to mediafire now. Looking into the kernel source now, will see what's what as time permits.

You just copy from /cache to your sdcard, then move to PC however you like. Thanks for posting, here's the copy I pulled in case there are bandwidth issues with anyone trying to download from either link:
1fa7a4e39714f2adf82d2ed4fdeeef35cbf9d9d5.USER_L300_SPT_MG5_to_ND4_Update_FWD.zip

I just glanced at the defconfig in the new kernel source, only thing that jumped out was vpn related, will let you guys know if I find anything.
