Biggest Annoyance with S5

Well, I AM a power user every day and had many smartphones over the years, see sig. I have no problem with touchwiz and am perfectly happy with it. :)
I don't like it when people say touchwiz is no good and launcher or that launcher is much better than touchwiz etc. It is up to the individual.

Sounds like you've used NovaLauncher before and are happy with it... more power to you. But to say you've never used touchwiz and judge it in a negative light is not correct. ;)

Although TW does like here and there but that's a software issue which can be updated, if the engineer plans to do so..

I've also have tried the highly raved Nova Launcher, I didn't like it and went back to TW.

I am another who feels that TouchWiz does a good job.

I tried KK Launcher and did not like the loss of some of TW's neat features that are interlaced into the S5's O.S., so I unloaded KK Launcher and went back to TW.

I did not try Nova Launcher simply because I assumed that the same results would occur as in KKL., it would also loose the neat things I enjoy with TW.

I do not sense any slowness on the part of TW. I doubt that I could sensibly measure a difference in speed between any of the launchers.

As in another post I just made, if it is not broken, I don't need to fix it. KISS.

The contact popup after ending a call drives me nuts! I just called them, I know who it was, I just hung up why would I want to call them or text them right after I got off the line with them! I wish there was some way to disable it!

This feature is really helpful if the caller does not answer, in which usually I send them a text, then all I have to do is touch the message button from this screen and voila. Or touch call again to try them back again and really annoy them :)

Gotta live with it or do auto updates or shut off the notifications.
It is kinda like what I get everytime I post here: ;)

I mean this happens with stupid stuff - for example, my direct dial widget can't seem to remember that it is supposed to use the phone. Seems like it forgets, even if there is no apparent update. Never had this issue with my S3.

KK launcher, and nova, are almost identical. from the menu settings, and windos in that.. to the feel of everything.. so.. if you didnt like KK, you wont like Nova..

my issues with TW, is that the icons are sooooo huge.. and the app drawer icon, is just as huge.. and its on the right hand side of the screen. i like my app drawer icon in the center.. as has been with every other android phone i have had. again.. to each his own i guess..

and the folders.. when you create a folder.. its a very ugly icon..

Grin..... when your eyes get to be 75 years old, those icons won't look so huge anymore.

Just today, my eye doctor said "son, you got the makings of some cataracts there".... and I asked, "how long before the surgery is necessary?"

Things are not as sharp to me as they were 20 or 40 years ago.

Personally, I don't object to the folders. I like the small outlines. Would rather have a different color than the choices available, but the blue is okay as it shows up okay with my solid black wallpaper.

Been there, done that with both eyes. Was going blind in my left eye. While driving, closing my right eye, with my left eye, I couldn't make out what KIND of car that was passing me on the freeway. Scary! and being legally deaf, even more scary.

Had cataract surgery and WOW! I could see as soon as they were done! And see normal. Today's modern cataract surgery is indeed the way to go. Go do it!

My single biggest annoyance is the home screen button. Coming from a Galaxy Nexus, I really miss my virtual button, it's ready easier to press

Virtual is easier... Really???
You can't turn on your phone that way, but you can with the button.
Much easier to push that anytime you want to go back home instantly too.
Very easy to get at.

It's much easier to push a virtual home button than a physical one.

I don't want to turn my phone on that way, and never tried until you mentioned it. I never will again. I'll stick to the button on the side

I'm just the opposite of you. That is the only button I use to turn the phone on and to get to home screen. I could beat you too, if you want to race. LOL
Besides, to turn the phone on YOU HAVE TO PUSH a BUTTON on the side or center/bottom!!! ;)

I don't think you get my gripe. I don't mind having to turn on the phone by pushing a real button.

When I'm in an app, it's noticeably more difficult to get to the home screen with a physical button than it was on with a virtual button as I used to do on galaxy nexus.

Actually, I don't even see how to go home with a virtual app. Never tried. I find it easy just to push that button to go home, no matter where I'm at in phone.

You'd press the home button, which would still be located in the same position as the physical button on this phone, it's just not a physical button. It would be just like the "back" button and "multitask" button.

Yeah, I don't see a "virtual" home icon. You could probably easy enough find one in the app store...

Well, I for one think Samsung got it right with this one. I love it. Never even thought about it until you brought it up... but I still like the physical button.
Not too late for you to take the phone back if you don't like it and get a phone that has one. Most phones are pretty darn good now days.

Because there isn't one

They use a physical button instead.

This isn't something that could be changed with an app, it's the hardware design.

And no, I won't be returning the phone over a fricking button lol

Since that back button was an issue for you.... you sure wouldn't want a iPhone 5S as they don't have a back button of any kind, virtual or hardware. ;)
My wife has the iphone 5S too and I've played with it from time to time and find it frustrating that there is no back button there!

This is what Stuntman had to say about his work iPhone S5 back button:

The UI conventions are different between the two platforms. The one thing that I really miss from Android when using the iPhone is the back button. After using the iPhone for a while, I realize how much I use the back button and how much I miss it. On iOS, the way you go back to a previous screen is highly inconsistent. Depending on the app and where in the app, the way you go back to the previous screen is different. You often see a button that has a label of the previous screen or a button to close the current screen. However, these buttons are not on the same place all the time. Often they are on the top left (which makes it easy to reach on a smaller phone). Sometimes it is the top right or elsewhere. The way you go back/close the current screen is to try to scroll beyond the bottom of the screen. Drag the screen up and release. Sometimes you drag the screen right from the centre of the screen. Sometimes you swipe inward from the left edge of the screen. There are just so many ways that even after a month, I still get mixed up and use the wrong gesture sometimes. On Android, the single back button is used.

The pastel colors for the phone and messages drive me nuts. I know there are other launchers and message apps but untill i figure how to get hose downloaded and running right im stuck with these ugly colors.

When I select previous calls, i can't just call whoever is listed. I have to click on it, then click on the very tiny phone icon, to bring up another window with a larger phone icon for me to finally call someone.

The home button, if i click it it says to use touchwiz home easy or touchwiz, wtf are these?

totally agree.. colors are hideous..

totally agree with the calls thing.. however.. there are workarounds.. when your in your call logs.. you can swipe from left to right.. it will auto dial.. you can swipe from right to left.. to message.. i have not used the phone dialer anymore.. i go to contacts.. and search that way..

for the home button.. you select touchwiz always.. not just once.. should make touchwiz your default home..

for your other ideas.. there are other launchers.. fully customizable.. i personally like KK launcher.. or Nova.. so much more options there.. i wish touchwiz was more customizable..

i came from a phone that didnt have a home button to wake the phone.. HTC One.. it is much nicer to be able to wake the phone with the home button.. however.. it is to easy to screw up in your pocket... in my pocket.. my phone will wake and screens will move.. or.. icons will move.. apps will open from widgets..

thats my only complaint.. other than the touchwiz not being able to be modified..

That has happened to me a couple times too. If you get the flip case, that won't happen. I took mine off, thinking of going back to it for that very reason, to control when and how it opens the screen.
