thanks go to aguba for sharing the link

Some developments. If anyone's been on the front page of XDA today, you might've seen this. It theoretically works with any device, so I tried it. It works, kind of. Root checker says my device is now rooted, but I can't download any of the binaries for any of the superuser apps.

Also if anyone asks Developer Options needs to be enabled by settings>about phone>software information> tap build number like 7 times

some other things ive discovered.

vol + down is stock recovery it says "factory reset processing" while loading it but doesn't actually reset anything from what I can tell, it does show an error msg however.

Hi millar43068, I moved your thread from the main F90 forum to the F90 all things root forum :)
np and thank you. could we make a sub forum for the boost mobile and virgin mobile versions?

so you have the phone? how is it so far? hows the screen and battery life?

I have the white version from virgin

havent played with it extensively yet but will I read previously of people complaining about the hd it looks fine to me very vibrant not as bright as the amoled on the galaxy series but it looks great.

UI is greatly improved a lot of LG features improved, you can hide qslide the remote thing worked right out of the box for my samsung tv, installed 120 or so apps and some large games vice city sonic duke nukem raiden legacy etc. all work great still have 1.79 gb available

the knock thing is very responsive when the phone is off and I noticed the UI overall being a lot smoother than the f3.

really cool screen on/off transition havent tried the guest mode yet.

I have no complaints as of yet :)

edit: battery life: out of the box 50% played with it until 3am talked on the phone for 2 hours and for the past 3 hours today and it only got down to 10% just now so fairly good but gotta do that initial charge to really be able to tell

I just bought this phone (lg volt) and I already have a stuck pixel on the first day of use and noticed only one speaker worked. Or is it supposed to be this way? Has anyone else noticed that only the left one works?

I saw a review video saying that one one speaker is supposed work. And the other is just show lol.

And is there any other apps we could use that could root the device?

Yea. I opened up the booklet and noticed it was pointing to only one speaker. So I'm sitting here like wtf. They put the who l hole for the other one what would it have cost them to put the other one? Now my only problem is my eagle eye sees a stuck pixel after only the first day of use. It's too small to really notice but sometimes I really pay attention. It's like the size of a piece of dust and when the screens all black you can see it.

(I posted a similar question over at XDA; I'm paraphrasing here)
Will this work for root? I haven't tried it pending confirmation from experts.

1. Install drivers so you can connect to phone using adb (I used the clockworkmod universal drivers)
2. Download either a) superuser recovery install http://download.clockworkmod.com/superuser/superuser.zip or b) SuperSU recovery installer SuperSU Download
3) using adb, reboot to recovery adb reboot recovery
4) While in recovery, install the zip file you downloaded in step 2
5) reboot and enjoy!

Again, I haven't tried this yet, but it seems like it should work.

Not sure that will work cause we can't access the recovery

Sure you can.... as long as you can run adb, you can reboot to recovery.

I'm really hoping we get root soon because boost is forcing me to use their software. I uninstall and disable all I can but every few restarts it comes back. It pisses me the hell off and is the only thing I hate about boost. If I try any of these rooting methods what's the worst that can happen?

The worst that could happen is your phone bricks.

Well, I tried this, after installing drivers from UsbDriverTool (clockworkmod LG drivers did not work), I was able to boot into recovery, but I keep getting errors in Windows saying the device malfunctioned and it is not recognized by ADB at this point. Load update from external SD fails to mount the sdcard.

Soo....got into recovery, then everything goes to sh*t.

This also triggered all the Boost apps to reassert themselves. >:|

UPDATE: Formatted sdcard to ext2, but now getting signature verification error on SuperSU zip, superuser.zip and kk_root.zip. Computer is still losing the device once it boots into recovery mode. This is also trying the IOroot method on XDA.

@bg4m3r, thanks for being the guinea pig for this! Couple of questions:
- Did you happen to try sideloading the update ("adb sideload superuser.zip")?
- What do you mean by "everything goes to ...."? Did it just not work, or did it mess anything else up?

my apps were unaffected

I tried the same thing adb drivers are recognized in windows but when rebooting to recovery via fastboot it causes windows to report it as an unknown device.

trying to see if this has anything to do with it.
Fixing adb "Device not found" with Nexus 7/Android devices in Recovery Mode

im trying it on different computers and trying different drivers, also got into download mode as well

[VOL UP] + POWER when you see the LG Logo plug in your usb to a pc.

it def got an upgrade from prior versions tells if youre rooted or not,

I tried sideloading, but once the phone boots into recovery, the computer loses it. ADB no longer reports the devices presence. By 'everything goes to sh*t' I just meant all ADB functionality is lost. The only way I've been able to access any updates in recovery is from ext2 formatted sdcard, but they give signature verification errors. This has also been with the phones connection mode set to charge only. Haven't tried with it on other settings...not sure if it would matter?

I think the restoration of Boost apps was coincidental as someone else has said that every few reboots everything comes back on its own. This is only like the third time I've rebooted since I got the phone thanks to its crazy battery life. I just went two days without recharging and was still at 30% when I plugged it in. :) Don't know why the other guy is rebooting so often that this has become annoying.

Trying to attempt this, but I can't find an entry in device manager when in recovery mode...wish he had provided a picture of that.

mine is under "universal serial bus controllers" at the bottom and its unknown device but there are no hardware Id's unfortunately to add to the .inf file

edit: also noticed there are no drivers or anything on lg's website yet under the support section for the volt, maybe when they will get put up later and they will be compatible? *shrugs*

did you click over to the Details tab in its properties? There should be an entry in the dropdown list that says Hardware Ids.

I'm using this driver: LGUnitedMobileDriver_S50MAN310AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.10.1_3.10.1.0

I restart so often because the software becomes buggy. Some apps become slightly sluggish and I hate when I press the back arrow sometimes when leaving one app it'll go to another I just closed before it goes back to the home screen, plus I keep getting this message
y9ehu7up.jpg
but that won't go away no matter what I do. I can't wait till we get root to debloat and debug it.
