What is your average Ting Bill? How much are the surcharges?

Hi Melissa, welcome to the site

Usually my Ting bill is around $25 a month, lowest one I've had was about $15 I believe. If you know about how much minutes/text/data you average a month you can check their rates here. Best way to keep your bill down is to use WiFi for data when it's available.

Taxes/surcharges are going to be different in every state because of different tax rates, but they don't charge those crazy $10 recovery fees that some carriers bill you for. I'll get about $5 in taxes/surcharges total for a $25 bill.

I have 4 devices, My normal bill is around $70 a month. My surcharges are about $10. I am in PA if that makes a difference.

This might be a silly question but do you pay double the taxes if you have 2 lines or just one set of taxes regardless of how many lines you have?

I'll have to look into that as I now have 3 phones on my account at $57/month.

We have 2 phones and use between 800 - 1200 minutes, around 1000 texts (give or take a couple hundred) and less than 500 mb of data. With that usage we pay between 58 and 71 a month. Just depends on if we are just over or just under the limit of the next usage range.

The good thing is if you are a tiny bit over, they still give you the lower rate. I think there's like a 10% grace amount they let you go over before they actually charge you the next rate. So if you talked for 1020 minutes, you'll still get charged for just the 1000 minute rate.

I don't have my bill in front of me so I can't say anything about the taxes, but I know they're not crazy.

Here is a little bit better breakdown of my taxes and surcharges:

With 3 phones on my account:

E911 Tax (Wireless) $3.00
FCC Regulatory Fee (Wireless) $0.05
Statutory Gross Receipts $1.53
Sales Tax $1.93
Fed USF Cellular $1.68

Taxes & regulatory fees total: $8.19

This is with 4 phones on my account:

E911 Tax (Wireless) $4.00
FCC Regulatory Fee (Wireless) $0.06
Statutory Gross Receipts $1.70
Sales Tax $2.14
Fed USF Cellular $1.95

Taxes & regulatory fees total: $9.85

Local and federal tax is just paid once as a percentage of your bill amount.

Some charges like the E911 fee are usually a set amount per device, as you can see in the post from willis68nova above ($3 for 3, $4 for 4). I did some searching and it looks like some states charge a percentage for E911 though, so it really depends on where you live.
