i wanted to ask some of the AT&T Straight Talk users how their speed throttling experiences were. I've been reading about how the AT&T side of Straight Talk gets throttled much more then the T-Mobile side, after using more than 100mbs in one day.

Im deciding between the at&t straight talk $45 plan or the t-Mobile $30 plan.

Anyones 2 cents would definitely be appreciated.

Thank you, in advance.

You choose the carrier by the coverage. If both AT&T and TMobile give you the same coverage, go with the cheaper (for your particular usage pattern) plan.

But if one of them doesn't give you coverage somewhere you need coverage (your office, your school, etc.), that carrier is worthless to you. Always choose the carrier, based on coverage, first. Then you can choose the plan, the phone, etc. Throttling agetr 100MB/day is a lot better than 0 speed after using no data.

Yup, your absolutely correct. However, where I live/work, both AT&T and T-Mobile have great coverage. Thats why I asked about the throttling, since im very certain that I use more than 100mbs a day, but i can limit the data usage between 3 to 5 gbs a month .

I really want to know if anyone with the AT&T sim has actually experienced throttle recently and how bad was it.

I'm on my first month on straight talk with att Sim. I ran out of my high speed data allotment for the month within 10 days. I came from metropcs. My data uses are approximately 45gb a month. I had to switch because my current location has zero T-Mobile coverage.
To tell you the truth I have not experienced any throttling after 100mb a day. I would download 300mb file and will be browsing OK after that. I tether a lot. So at my laptop I have a feel for connection speed. Although speedtest would show a speed like .5mbps it was still comfortable to browse.
Couple of days ago I received a text from straight talk saying I am over the limit and I will be throttled down to 128kbps. I checked in my phone and it showed I used 3.4gb data. So they were reasonable. But the throttled speed is agonizing. It takes around 45 second to load a page like here in this forum. Tethering makes it even slower to the point of unusable. I had to start using the phone to browse which I hate due to small screen. That is the reason I tether.
Anyway this is my experience with throttling. Your milage may vary.

How'd you get away with tethering, they rather specifically call that a no no. I've read they shut you off for that pretty quick. My hydro elite has the access point function but I'm hesitant to try i. I haven't seen better than 5 mbps yet but I've only had it two days, a few have reported speeds improved and problems with MMS somehow resolved themselves over time or when they buy the first refill.

I use nexus 5 which is unlocked and free of carrier spyware. So if you have a carrier branded phone, its better to have it rooted with a custom ROM so all original apps are wiped. that takes care of apps reporting tether. And use a user agent switcher for the browser in the computer.

My phone is rooted had to because apn can't be edited on this phone had to use some tools and hack it. Android 4.1.2 is ok but I'd like to go to at least 4.2 at some point. Custom rom sounds scary, is it pretty newbie proof these don't want to end up with a paper weight that used to be my phone. Ah, that would explain how they know but if this was a verizon phone one would believe it wouldn't be reporting to any other provider, or do just mean it would battle you?
