Help Galaxy Note 2 Feeling Warm

I've been noticing recently that my Note 2 has been getting warm when it is left in my pocket for periods of time. This will often lead to poorer battery performance as well. When it is out of my pocket it will cool down and the battery dissipation will go back to normal.

This is my first Android phone so I'm wondering if this sounds normal. The phone gets far from hot, just slightly warm to medium warm. I can't notice any processes running during this time as compared to others. Does it make sense for increased air circulation to cool off the phone and improve battery performance?

I'm coming from an iPhone which would get warm during processor intensive moments but I never saw this when the phone was in standby and resting in my pocket.

I'm not wearing skinny jeans or anything and the Note 2 is in a standard Samsung case.

Thanks for the help.

So I never got a response to this but am still noticing this. I can definitely relate the temperature of the phone to how long it is in my pocket. Today after it was in my pocket for about 2 hours straight I took it out and the temperature was 39 degrees Celsius. After it was out for about 30 mins the temp dropped to the normal 25-28 degrees.

I will often take it out of my pocket for 30-60 mins and see the temp running between 32-35 degrees. When it is sitting on a table it will never go above 29 degrees.

Is this all normal? If the phone is in my pocket but not doing anything does it make sense that it would be running this warm?

Thanks.

There are different things I'd check 1st:

1) Apps running in the background that might be overworking the battery that aren't necessarily supposed to

2) Text messages that turn the phone on, but the screen doesn't turn back until after the amount of time that you have set for the display to turn off automatically.

That said, I've also noticed this more recently, but every time I've found that an app was running that shouldn't be, so I would force close that app (more recently, it's been Shazam, which I only use from time to time).

I don't think it is apps running in the background as it will cool down just by taking out of my pocket. The one thing I want to check is if it's related to bluetooth as I often will notice it after I've been driving. My phone is in my pocket for longer periods of time when I'm driving but it is also connected to my car which could be the real cause of the temperature. I'll try leaving it out of my pocket for my car trip to and from work as well as leaving it in my pocket when I'm not in my car for comparisons.

My phone has been running hot lately as well.

In fact, at one point, it completely shut down to the point that I could not turn it back on without first removing the battery and then inserting it back in.

Trying to find the perfect non-root app that will show what processes/apps are suffocating the phone.

How about settings... battery... ? :D Don't need root for that.

I agree. I think something's waking it up and you have the setting enabled that checks to see if you're looking at the screen and maybe that keeps the screen on.

Screen-on time, vs, some app in your battery-used list will tell you the answer.

I have been noticing something simiar with my Note2. According to the battery overview my top battery using elements are:
Androuid System: 23%
Screen - 22%
Spotify - 11%
2048 puzzle - 8%
Android-OS - 8%
Google services - 4%

That accounts for 76%. Spotify and 2048 is probably OK, but what about the rest? I have 23+8 = 31% being used by android system and Android-OS - and I have no idea if that is what should be expected?
