Root [Boost Mobile] KitKat ND8 update

For those folks on Boost or VM who flashed the Sprint ND8 Kit Kat tar, I have good news. I just risked sleeping on the couch to see if the NDC tar would flash over the ND8 bootloader, and not only did it flash, but it saved all of the data, just like an OTA upgrade does. She snagged it back before I was able to re-root and such, but just know, it DOES flash over it just fine, just takes awhile. Good luck!

Any performance or signal improvements?

Wife snagged it back before I could really test, but she was running KK ND8 before, so performance, same, signal, remains to be seen. From JB MK5, better performance, definitely, and verdict is still out on signal...I've heard some say it's way better, same, even worse. YDMV :)

Got it, so basically this is good to get the ndc bootloader and modem upgraded from mk5 in order to flash nd8 and ndc roms?

It's a personal choice. Some are taking the update while others are staying away from Knox.

Personally, I flashed the Sprint nd8 image and then flashed the new Philz recovery. Afterwards I flashed Wicked-X. The ROM is so nice that I have DEcided to stick with it. :)

One thing I want to make you aware of if you do Decide to update. Don't start worrying about it taking a long time to flash. It took mine a good while to finish. Don't panic and unplug the phone or try and stop it or you could very easily brick your phone. Just be patient and let it do its thing.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to do, I was just waiting for the boost modem because they seem to work better for me than sprints. Knox doesn't really bother me because I don't plan on downgrading

I'm the same way...might be placebo, but it seems the Boost modems work better for me. And wetbiker7 is exactly right. Don't panic. When Odin is done, it'll actually show you how long it took. 14 min, 26 seconds for me. And when you're dealing with Odin, that's an eternity, because you just KNOW this is going to be that time that your battery dies, the dog or munchkin kid rips the phone away from the PC while you're trying to explain to your wife what you're doing to her phone and what "brick" means, etc....put it on the counter, hit start, and leave the room for about 15 minutes...for your sanity...you're welcome :)

Thanks for mentioning the battery. I forgot.

You will want to have plenty of juice in your battery before you start the update.:D

If you flash NDC tar, it won't wipe your internal card or data.

I've gotta question for ya JD. I'm thinking about just flashing the NDC modem. I'm on ND8 and want to see if there is any change in reception, good or bad. One problem. I've looked but I haven't seen a recovery flashable ND8 modem zip in case the NDC modem ended up messing with my reception and I need to flash back.

Do you know of one that I've missed? I really don't even need a recovery zip to flash the ND8 modern. I could use Odin to flash the ND8 baseband tar but I haven't seen one of those either. LOL!

There isn't one out that I know of. @CNexus put one out when ND8 first dropped but a couple of guys bricked while flashing it, so he took it down. Should be something as simple as changing out the NON-HLOS.bin file from @moonknightus's NDC modem zip. Or you can always back it up in Philz recovery. Reboot to recovery, backup and restore, custom backup to.....(I suggest sd card), backup modem, profit :)

SWEET! I didn't even think about using Philz to make modem backup. Thx
