Hey so I've been wanting to root my phone for a while just because the freedom has always looked so much better. Recently though my phone has been so sluggish and it seems to be getting worse week by week. Its not just when certain apps open its everything. I have heard rooting can speed things up and that the cyanogenmod can speed things up further. My question is, being a new person to rooting, what do I need to do to get my stock verizon sg3 4.3 to cyanogenmod. Some places I've read say you don't need to root, some say you do and that you need to unlock the bootloader. I've done a lot of reading but I was hoping someone here could really give me something clear. I really want to root so I can get rid of bloat ware, speed things up, and extend battery life. I eagerly await any helpful people :)

Hello there Cosmic!
The only way to install a rom is to root.
Seeing as though you are on 4.3, the bootloader cannot be unlocked.
You can root via Saferoot here:
[ROOT] Saferoot: Root for VRUEMJ7, MK2, and Android 4.3 - xda-developers

Then, installing a custom recovery called Safestrap (after rooting):
[RECOVERY LOCKED] Safestrap Recovery v3.71 [2014-01-10 Alpha] - xda-developers

Then, using Safestrap recovery, you can only flash TouchWiz roms such as CleanRom.
You will not be able to flash AOSP roms such as Cyanogenmod.

I have never used either of those methods as I rooted my phone long before 4.3.

I am about 97.1% sure of my information there:)

You can also refer to some info in this sticky that some yoyo wrote up:
http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...s-roms-kernels-unroot-sofbricks-post-2-a.html

Others are welcome to chime in and comment on my understanding of how to root/rom on 4.3 ;)

Ok, I have a stock s3 with 4.3 i535.

I just want to root and flash some roms.... can someone direct me to where the latest and greatest info is for this?

I used to have a moto triumph and used cm11 at the end I believe with that phone, it was great but had to move on. The s3 is awesome, I'll upgrade in Dec but wanted to see what i could do until then...

I appreciate any help. It almost seems like reading above that I will not be able to get cyanogenmod roms then? If that's so, are there other roms that will speed up my s3 still?
