hi all,
i am on metro unlimited plan that uses t-mobile towers. now i maybe moving in a rural area that has zero t-mobile coverage so i am shopping for a prepaid network that uses att towers. the location i checked in att and aio coverage maps shows from lte (best) to 4g (worst) and moderate voice coverage. so i am looking at straight talk with att sim hoping those info will be true.
now i frequently tether my laptop and i think ST does not allow tethering. but have anyone tethered with them just to see?
thanks.

It says no tethering in their TOS and I saw at least one post who said someone was playing with that and they shut off her service almost instantly. They sell an access point thingy, or they did, I have a virgin mobile that's five a day if that's all you need heck so many places have free wifi these days I hardly ever use the vm gadget. But I also saw another post said they tether a "little" bit now and then on straight talk with no issues so maybe they just watch volume, I really don't know how they would know you're tethering, can some techie explain that?

Update:
I have been tethering since day one of my month with straight talk. I blew through my 3gb data within ten days :D they sent me a text saying I used all high speed data.now I am on 2g for the rest of the month. One particular day I downloaded 800 mb just to see their reaction, nothing happened.
Rule number 1 for tether is to use user agent switcher for the browser regardless of necessity most of the wireless company identify tether this way.
Using a nexus 5 also help

I have tethering and mobile hot spot option in settings but it appears to be disabled. I have the virgin gadget but if I can get that working I wouldn't have to carry it for my wifi only tablet. Any thoughts on getting that going or might that be carrier tied and wouldn't work with other than the birth carrier. I think my tablet has the same setting, maybe its just in android these days?

I just got my straight talk 3G phone working on USB as hotspot for Acer laptop. Free version of FoxFi and pdanet appear to be limited to 1G, so very slow page load. If I purchase the full feature version of pdanet and FoxFi, will I get decent speeds? Need this for personal use at work, since work wifi is secure and filtered and monitored by CSC,

Out of all the carriers I've tethered with, that's the first I've heard about this.

Have you tried with any other tethering app? May be to prevent tethering without the required tethering plan.

Just to amuse my curiosity, would you mind trying to do a wired tether to see if does the same thing?

FYI, tethering is highly against st's TOS, be careful with it if you get it working properly.

ST network (ATT) automatically drops my connection speed from LTE (114dbm, 25 asu) to HSPA (109dbm, 5 asu) the instant i turn on my tether. i noticed that it goes back to LTE when i turn off the tether. i do wifi tether only. as i live in a fringe signal area, i noticed E for edge and G for gprs also. as i mentioned in the earlier post, use an user agent switcher for the browser while tethering. as dragon slayer said keep under the radar of ST.
